Assisted Reproductive Technology, Surrogacy Bill Striving To Provide Better Medical Care: Mandaviya

Inculcating new techniques in Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) have vastly benefitted patients and raised awareness about the cause and treatment of infertility, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Saturday.     

He was virtually addressing the 27th annual Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction (ISAR) conference held in Bhopal in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel.      

He asserted that Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) and the Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill strive to provide patients with better medical care and security. 

The minister said health initiatives introduced by the government for facilitating quality motherhood have paid dividends and resulted in lowering Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR), a statement by the health ministry said.

He also exuded confidence that with the ongoing relentless efforts to imbibe new developments in ART, India will make significant progress in ensuring best facilities and care for fertility to couples in the country.  

Elaborating further, Mandaviya cited lack of menstrual hygiene as a significant initial factor contributing to childlessness among couples. He said to facilitate menstrual hygiene, Jan Aushadhi Kendras are providing sanitary pads at Re 1.

He reiterated that the central government is committed towards fostering a holistic approach to health and highlighted that traditional medicinal principles in the country will further strengthen our endeavour. 

The health minister lauded the efforts of ISAR on providing a forum for thousands of IVF and ART specialists, gynaecologists, and embryologists across the globe to gather and exchange knowledge, technical developments and innovations, the statement added.
