Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday handed over the keys of 8,912 houses under the Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TIDCO) scheme worth Rs 800 crore to eligible beneficiaries in Krishna district.

Measuring 300 sq ft, each house has been distributed to the beneficiaries at just Re 1 in Mallayapalem near Gudivada.

This land parcel of 257 acres also houses 7,728 plots sanctioned for women, where 4,500 additional houses are being constructed.

"We are doing this great programme to make women rights holders and change the face of their history.  Today, we are not building houses but villages," Reddy said in a video link shared by the state government.

According to the Chief Minister, the keys to the newly built houses being given away to the beneficiaries fulfil a promise he had made before coming to power during his padayatra in Gudivada.

Including the 7,728 plots given to homeless women and the 8,912 houses, Reddy said nearly 16,240 families will be living in this Jagananna Colony.

In Gudivada constituency alone, Reddy said as much as Rs 1,782 crore is being spent on housing sites, constructing TIDCO houses and Jagannna colonies, benefiting around 22,000 people.

In addition to these houses, another 4,200 houses will be sanctioned in this constituency to coincide with the birth anniversary of former CM Y S Rajasekhar Reddy on July 8, he said.    Further, the Chief Minister said 31 lakh housing site pattas (documents) were distributed to women from all sections of the society in the past four years while 21 lakh houses are at various stages of construction in 17,000 colonies now.

So far, 5.52 lakh houses have been constructed, he said.

On a state-wide basis, when the value of 30.6 lakh housing sites is considered at a minimum of Rs 2.5 lakh, then we have created a wealth of about Rs 75,000 crore for women, said Reddy.
