Keshav Maharaj took two wickets, while Simon Harmer took one as South Africa ended the day on a high. Follow here Day 4 highlights of SA vs BAN.

SA Vs BAN, First Test: South Africa Reconfirm Authority On Day 4; Bangladesh 11/3 - Highlights
South Africa have set a target of 274 runs for Bangladesh. Follow highlights of SA vs BAN here.

South Africa reduced Bangladesh to 11/3 when bad light first stopped the play and then eventually forced Stumps on Day 4 at Kingsmead, Durban. Earlier, it was a sensational bowling effort from the Bangladesh bowlers that bundled out South Africa for 204 runs. However, when Bangladesh came out to chase 274 runs in the fourth innings, they found the pitch harder to bat on as the South African spinners wreaked havoc in just 6 overs on Sunday. Simon Harmer took the wicket of Shadman Islam, before Keshav Maharaj struck twice in one over to put Bangladesh in hot water. The Tigers need 263 runs more to win, South Africa need the rest 7 wickets. Follow here highlights of SA vs BAN Day 4.

That is Stumps on Day 4. And just 6 overs of play in the fourth innings has declared that South Africa are way ahead in this game. Bangladesh, who have seven wickets in hand, need 263 runs more to win this game and the deteriorating pitch suggests that it is an uphill task for them.

    Bad Light Stops Play

Bad light has forced the umpires to stop the game. Bangladesh will be relieved at least for this moment.

    Maharaj Strikes Again

This is superb from South Africa. Maharaj has struck again and this time Mominul Haque is his victim. Maharaj bowled his stock ball and Mominul missed it completely. The ball hit him right in front of the stumps and nothing could save him from an LBW dismissal. Bangladesh are in deep-deep trouble.

    BAN 8/3 (4.5)

    Another Wicket

Mahmudul Hasan Joy has been cleaned up by Keshav Maharaj. The left-arm orthodox has pierced the defence of Joy, who had scored a handsome 137 in the preceding innings.

    BAN 6/2 (4.1)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 8:30 PM

Shadman Islam is gone! What a start for South Africa this is! Simon Harmer pitched it up. The ball came in with an angle and turned away after pitching. All Shadman could do is to edge it to Keegan Petersen at first slip.

    BAN 4/1 (1.2)

    Action Resumes

Mahmudul Hasan Joy takes the strike, Keshav Maharaj has the ball in hand. Shadman Islam joins in as the fellow opener. Here we go!

A FOUR came off the first over.

    South Africa All Out

Ebadot Hossain dismisses Duanne Olivier and South Africa are bundled out for 204 runs. Olivier was found plumb in front of the stumps, umpire Marais Erasmus too didn't waste time in raising his finger. Even a review against LBW decision failed to save Olivier.

    SA 204 (74)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 8:11 PM

    Another Run Out!

What are the South African batsmen doing out there at the middle! Ryan Rickelton hit an Ebadat Hossain delivery for an easy single but a misfield propeled him and Lizaad Williams to complete a couple. Rickelton sent Williams back but not before Liton Das could have cleaned up the bails at the striker's end.

    SA 204/9 (73.1)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 8:04 PM

    Run Out!

Simon Harmer is run out on 11 as substitute fielder Nurul Hasan has hit the bull's eye from deep cover. Harmer played a shot on the offside on Mehidy Hasan's ball and took a couple quite easily. A greed to go for the third one got better of him as a direct hit cut short his innings.

    SA 202/8 (72.5)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 7:51 PM

    South Africa Rise Steadily

South Africa have extended their lead to 259 runs. They would aim at least 50 runs more from here as anything over 300 will be a tough total to chase on this track. The Proteas rely on Ryan Rickelton, who is unbeaten on 33 off 78 balls.

    SA 190/7 (70)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 7:29 PM

An inswinging delivery from Taskin Ahmed and South Africa lose Keshav Maharaj (5 runs). It struck him on the front foot and umpire Marais Erasmus raised his finger. Maharaj didn't bother to review it and walked away.

    SA 183/7 (65.4)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 7:19 PM

Good planning and execution helps Mehidy Hasan get rid of Wiaan Mulder. He came round the wicket and produced an edge from the willow of Mulder, and in-form fielder Yasir Ali at first slip didn't make any mistake. Just 11 runs in the final session so far and South Africa have lost a wicket, this is good bowling from Bangladesh.

    SA 168/6 (64.1)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 7:02 PM

    Final Session Starts

We are into the final session on Day 4. Wiaan Mulder will face Taskin Ahmed for the first ball of the over. Get set ... go!

Just a single came off the over.

    SA 158/5 (62)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 6:41 PM

    Tea Break

Really impressive work from Bangladesh in the session. They gave away just 52 runs and claimed 4 wickets in the phase. The match still hangs in balance and South Africa know that. They need some more runs on the board. You can’t take chance against a team like Bangladesh.

    SA 157/5 (61)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 6:31 PM

    Tight Overs

Just four runs have come off the last five overs. If not wickets, Bangladesh bowlers have done one thing right is to choke the South African batters for runs. This will create pressure on the Proteas if they wish to get a favourable result out of the game.

    SA 153/5 (58)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 6:11 PM

    Chance Put Down

Oh, no! Khaled Ahmed has dropped Wiaan Mulder's catch. The right-arm pacer had bowled on the body to Mulder who got an edge to see the ball flying in the air on the left of Khaled. It was catchable but Khaled failed to reach under the ball on time.

These all missed chances will haunt Bangladesh if they fail to reach home by short margin in this game.

    SA 149/5 (53.1)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 6:06 PM

Oh My God! This is some brilliant fielding from Bangladesh. Kyle Verreynne tried to play a reverse-sweep on the ball of Mehidy Hasan. The ball first hit his bat, then his front leg and then popped up in front of Shadman Islam at short. Shadman's quick reflexes helped him grab the stunner. Half of South African team is in the dugout now.

    SA 148/5 (52.1)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 5:57 PM

    Kyle Verreynne Survives

That’s a really good review from Kyle Verreynne. He had missed a slog-sweep on the ball of Mehidy Hasan, and umpire Adrian Holdstock had raised his finger after some delay. Verreynne challenged the decision and the ball was found to be missing the leg stump by a fair margin.

    SA 146/4 (50.4)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 5:53 PM

    Bangladesh Need Wickets

Ryan Rickelton (13 not out) and Kyle Verreynne (5 not out) have added 19 runs since the fall of Temba Bavuma. Bangladesh need more wickets here otherwise if South Africa manage another 100-150 on the board, the visitors will have their task cut out in Durban.

    SA 145/4 (50)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 5:35 PM

    SA's Lead Is Over 200

South Africa have extended their lead to 201 runs. Kyle Verreynne and Ryan Rickelton are batting at 4 and 1 run respectively. Bangladesh bowlers have performed really well in this session so far. They have conceded just 27 runs and have taken three wickets.

    SA 132/4 (46)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 5:21 PM

    What A Catch

Temba Bavuma is out! That's a sensational grab from Yasir Ali at slip. Ebadot Hossain bowled it outside off stump and Bavuma edged it. The ball was about to pass between wicketkeeper and first slip before Yasir put a dive to his left and took an amazing catch with his left hand to cut short Bavuma's stint at the crease.

    SA 126/4 (43.4)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 5:14 PM

Set batter Keegan Petersen is out on 36, Mehidy Hasan claims the wicket. Petersen worked the ball on the leg side and Mahmudul Hasan Joy took a really good catch at forward short leg.

    SA 126/3 (42.4)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 4:50 PM

Good review from Bangladesh. Taskin had caught Dean Elgar plumb in front of the stumps and umpire Marais Erasmus was unmoved. Bangladesh took the review and got the wicket. Elgar departs after scoring a crucial 64.

    SA 116/2 (37.3)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 4:30 PM

    Play Resumes

Keegan Petersen takes the strike, Taskin Ahmed will bowl the first over of the second session. Here wo go!

A FOUR came off the over.

    SA 109/1 (34)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 3:51 PM

    Lunch Break

South Africa have extended the lead to 174 runs. The pitch is getting more and more bowling friendly with every following delivery. Chasing definitely won't be easy for Bangladesh. However, the biggest problem for South Africa is what should be their approach here on as just five more sessions are remaining in the game. 99 runs and a wicket came from this session and South Africa will look to score more in the following session.

    SA 105/1 (33)

    100 Up For South Africa

30.1 - A single from Dean Elgar and South Africa have 100 runs on the board. They now lead Bangladesh by 169 runs and looking at the pitch one can tell that this game is slipping out of the hands of Bangladesh.

Many balls are staying pretty low and the pitch is also offering some good help to spinner Mehidy Hasan. He is getting fair amount of turn. Mehidy has not got any wicket against his name so far in this innings, but he will definitely end with impressive figures.

    SA 100/1 (30.1)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 3:06 PM

    FIFTY For Dean Elgar

A FOUR to the third-man boundary and Dean Elgar races to his 21st Test fifty. He has been lucky twice in this innings, but has used the opportunity pretty well to hurt Bangladesh more. The most impressive thing among all is his strike rate, he has scored his fifty in just 73 balls.

    SA 78/1 (24)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 2:59 PM

    Catch Dropped!

22.2 - Dean Elgar has been dropped again at slip. It was bowled outside off from from Ebadat Hossain and Elgar threw his bat to it but to his good luck Yasir Ali dropped the catch.

On the first ball of the 20th over too, Elgar was dropped at slip by Najmul Hossain Shanto, otherwise South Africa could have been two down. Bangladesh need to grab every oportunity with both the hands. They have already conceded a lead of 69 runs in the first innings and such mistakes won't help.

8 runs came off the 23rd over.

    SA 71/1 (23)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 2:36 PM

    Ebadot Strikes

OUT! Ebadot Hossain gets Bangladesh first breakthrough. Sarel Erwee is trapped in front for 8.

The umpire was not convinced, but Bangladesh were. They took a review and eventually got the wicket.

    SA 48/1 (18.3)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 2:18 PM

    In Total Control

10 overs in the morning so far and South Africa have looked in complete control. Dean Elgar and Sarel Erwee have played the Bangladesh bowlers at ease. SA 37/0 (14)

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 1:45 PM

    Elgar Starts With 4s

Two fours in an over from Dean Elgar off Mehidy Hasan. The South African openers are looking in solid touch here. SA 17/0 (6)

There were brief instances of rain last night which eased around midnight. The weather is dry now but the skies are cloudy. The game looks to start on time. Meanwhile, 15 minutes have been added to each session after 17 overs were lost on Day 3.

    WTC Points On Offer

South Africa have 196 overs left to gain a positive result from this Test match and add an invaluable 12 World Test Championship points to their kitty.

    SA Pray For Good Weather

South Africa will pray for good weather on Sunday and Monday. The home team is clearly in a dominant position and a lot will depend on how South Africa openers Dean Elgar (3 not out) and Sarel Erwee (3 not out) take control of the first session today. Ninety-eight overs are scheduled for Day 4 and if the weather stays fine, a result is a big possibility.

  • 03 Apr 2022 / 12:06 PM

    Joy, The Bangla Tiger

South Africa could have been in a stronger position in the Kingsmead Test but for a young Bangladeshi named  Mahmudul Hasan Joy, whose first Test century could not have been better timed. The 21-year-old Mahmudul Hasan Joy, playing only his third Test, was the last man out after scoring 137. Joy was pivotal to Bangladesh’s score, sharing an 82-run stand with Litton Das (41) for the sixth wicket and then a partnership of 51 with Mehidy Hasan Miraz (29) for the eighth wicket.
