Pennsylvania state police are currently searching for the escaped prisoner, Danelo Cavalcante, who fled from the eastern Pennsylvania prison on August 31. According to a recent update from the state police, the prisoner is armed with dangerous weapons. He stole a Ruger rifle equipped with a flashlight from the garage of a local resident. The fugitive fled after several shots were fired at him by the resident with a pistol. According to the state police, Danelo is not injured and is seeking a place to hide.

In addition to Pennsylvania police, officers from the FBI, US Marshal, and ATF are also involved in the investigation. The investigating agencies are searching the vicinity of the shooting. Police have established a search perimeter stretching several miles from the location of the shooting. Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens stated in a news conference, "I think he is just trying to survive and avoid being captured right now." Pennsylvania State police issued a warning through social media on Tuesday evening: "Residents should secure buildings, property, and vehicles. Report sightings or related activity immediately to 911." Several emergency alerts have been sent to people within a three-mile radius, addressing safety and vigilance regarding the fugitive. Police have instructed them to "lock all external doors and windows, secure vehicles, and remain indoors."

Danelo's escape was captured on the prison's surveillance camera. It shows that he escaped the compound by crab walking on the wall, passing through the razor wire, running across a roof, and scaling the fences. His movements went undetected for an hour after his escape. He was convicted of the first-degree murder of his former girlfriend, Deborah Brandao, by stabbing her 38 times in front of her two children, a seven-year-old daughter, and a three-year-old son, in April 2021. He was sentenced to life in prison. According to the investigating agencies, he was an agricultural worker in Brazil. He is also guilty of killing a 20-year-old man in a car repair dept in Brazil. Prosecutors said that he killed his girlfriend to prevent her from telling the police about his previous crime.
