The authorities  stated at a press conference that a manhunt is underway in the Philadelphia suburbs for a convicted killer (Danelo Cavalcante) who escaped from Chester County Prison on Thursday morning.
Danelo Cavalcante was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of release after being convicted of first-degree murder. According to the district attorney's office, he stabbed his ex-girlfriend, Deborah Brandao, to death in front of her two children, ages four and seven, in April 2021.
According to the district attorney's office, Ms. Brandao knew of Mr. Cavalcante's open murder warrant in Brazil before the attack and vowed to inform the authorities. "Detectives determined that this was the motive for the murder," the office stated last week on Facebook.
Mr. Cavalcante was last seen going southbound in the county's Pocopson Township on Thursday morning, wearing a white T-shirt, gray shorts, and white sneakers, according to Deb Ryan, the district attorney for Chester County.
The Associated Press (AP) claimed that it took a jury about 15 minutes to convict Cavalcante of murdering his girlfriend. Prosecutors apparently told Ryan that he was upset because his girlfriend was about to reveal charges he faced in Brazil for a different murder.
The Associated Press stated that he was 5 feet tall and 120 pounds, had curly black hair and a "closely cropped beard and mustache," citing a photo supplied by the county and speaks Portuguese and Spanish. According to the Associated Press, Ryan stated that neighbors within a 6-mile radius of the prison had been notified.
Howard Holland, the prison's acting warden, wouldn't make any comment on how or why the escape happened at a news conference on Thursday. Authorities advised that "Don't go up to him if you see him”. "We'd like you to call 911”.
The search was going on throughout all of Chester County and that people within six miles of the jail were told about the escape. The county is right next to Philadelphia, to the west.
