A special court has awarded life imprisonment to four men for raping a 19-year-old Dalit woman in Rajasthan’s Alwar district. The fifth man has been sentenced to five years in jail. The sixth, a minor at the time of the crime, is being tried separat­ely. The crime is from 2019­—the woman was raped in front of her husband. The juvenile filmed the rape on his phone.

The BJP has declared its list for the assembly bypolls in Madhya Pradesh, fielding all loyalists of former Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia­—six Congress ministers and 19 MLAs—who quit with him to join the party in March. As many as 28 assembly seats will have bypolls on November 3.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has accused RJD of “political cheating” and announced that it will independ­ently contest seven seats in the Bihar elections. But it said the decision won’t affect the ruling coalition of JMM-Congress-RJD in Jharkhand. The JMM is miffed over seat-sharing.
