This will only be the second meeting between the two nations in the event's history, the first coming in 2004 when a group-stage encounter ended 1-1.
After the national anthems are other pre-match rituals, the game gets underway in Tangier. Mali kicking from left to right and Senegal the other way in the first half.
At the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, Al Kholood face Al-Ittihad in Matchday 14 of Saudi Pro League 2025–26. Al Ittihad come into the contest chasing a fifth straight win and sit sixth in the table on 23 points, while Al Kholood are 12th with 12 points despite a morale-boosting 5-0 victory over Al-Fayha last time out.
Senegal take the lead in the 27th minute! A mistake from Mali goalie Diarra leads sets the ball up perfectly in Iliman Ndiaye's way, who gleefully accepts the gift at the goal-mouth to puts his side ahead.
In the second AFCON quarter-final of the evening, Cameroon meet hosts Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. The Atlas Lions are unbeaten and chasing a first AFCON title in 50 years, while Cameroon arrive with mixed form but plenty of resilience and big-match pedigree as both sides battle for a place in the semi-finals.
Mali are down to 10 men! Yves Bissouma is shown a second yellow card and has to leave the pitch prematurely, in the third minute of added time. The elongated first half eventually ends with the scoreline reading 1-0 in Senegal's favour. Can The Eagles claw their way back in the second half?
The players have returned from the lemon break and the second half is underway. Senegal now kicking from left to right and Mali in the opposite direction. The Lions of Teranga have one foot in the semis, and it would take something special from the Eagles to stop them from here.
Senegal make their first set of substitutions in the 62nd minute. Both changes are the midfield: Pathe Ciss replaces Habib Diarra and Lamine Camara is in for Pape Gueye.
The minutes are ticking by, and Mali's hopes of an equaliser are getting dimmer. Remember that a 1-1 scoreline would lead to extra time, but for that to happen, Senegal have to suffer a defensive failure.
Seven minutes added as stoppage time to the second half, amid steady rain. Mali's attempts grow desperate, while Senegal look to sneak in a counter-attack or two.
That's that! The referee blows the full-time whistle and Senegal forge their way into the AFCON semis. The 1-0 scoreline means the Lions of Teranga will meet either Egypt or Ivory Coast in the last-four stage. For Mali, however, the dream ends here.
