Lionel Scaloni rotated heavily, but Giovani Lo Celso gave the defending champions the lead with a brilliant free-kick before Lautaro Martínez doubled the advantage from the penalty spot. Jordan showed resilience after the break as substitute Mousa Al-Taamari pulled one back to spark hopes of a comeback. However, Lionel Messi came off the bench in the 60th minute and produced another magical moment, curling home a trademark free-kick to seal the result. The goal made Messi the first player in history to score in seven consecutive FIFA World Cup matches as Argentina advanced to the Round of 32, while Jordan bowed out after its maiden World Cup campaign
