Hello everyone and welcome to our late night blog covering the Spanish league. European powerhouses FC Barcelona host Valencia at the Johan Cruyff Stadium and we will bring to you the build-up and live updates from the match.
The match kicks off at 12:30am IST. The FC Barcelona vs Valencia, La Liga 2025-26 match will be live streamed on the FanCode app and website in India. It will not be telecast on any TV channel in the country.
As was already known, Lamine Yamal is not part of the hosts' squad due to injury. Here is FC Barcelona's line-up for tonight's clash:
And here is Valencia CF's line-up for the match, which kicks off in about 10 minutes' time:
As already mentioned, Barca had previously targeted a return to the Camp Nou for their first home league game of the season, but the necessary permits have not come through. The 6,000-capacity Estadi Johan Cruyff, which borders their training ground on the edge of Barcelona, is thus hosting the encounter.
This venue is also the home to the Blaugrana’s women’s side and the men’s reverse team. The La Liga champions have spent the last two seasons playing at the Olympic Stadium in Montjuic, but it is unavailable this week due to a Post Malone concert.
Barcelona last played at the Nou Camp in May 2023 – a stadium which could hold up to 100,000 people.
After a minute's silence to pay tribute to the former FC Barcelona players who passed away last season, a Barca home match gets underway for the first time at the Johan Cruyff Stadium. Blaugrana kicking from left to right and Valencia from right to left in the first half.
Barcelona squander a couple of early chances. First, Marcus Rashford's shot from close range goes wide in the fourth minute. Then, Ferran Torres's chip flies inches over the Valencia post in the 10th.
Barcelona have dominated proceedings so far, be it possession, chances created or attacking moves. On-air commentators aver that this is the best opening passage of play in the season so far for Hansi Flick's men. Let's see if it results into a goal or two.
There comes the opening goal. Fermin Lopez responds superbly to Ferran Torres' ball and Barcelona take the lead in the 29th minute. Valencia try to counter with a couple of corners, soon after but nothing comes off them.
Marcus Rashford comes up with a purposeful run inwards from the left flank and is somehow thwarted by a Valencia defender as the ball goes out for a corner. Barcelona swarming the visitors' box and Casado lets rip one from distance, but the shot floats well over the bar.
After just a solitary minute of added time, the first half comes to an end. Barcelona have not been challenged at all so far, which is demonstrated by the fact that Valencia have not had a single shot at their goal yet. Still, Fermin Lopez's clinical strike is all that separates the two teams, going into the interval.
The players return for the second half and Barcelona now kicking from right to left. Raphinha makes his first appearance on the pitch, as he substitutes Roony Bardghji before kick-off. That's the only change the Blaugrana have made.
Instant impact from Raphinha. The Brazilian forward receives a fantastic through ball from Marcus Rashford and connects awkwardly at the goal mouth, but it is enough to find the back of the net. Barcelona double their lead in the 53rd minute.
The floodgates are thrown open! Fermin Lopez nets his second, and this one is even more beautiful than the opener. The Spaniard confidently shoots a left-footer from almost 25 yards out, and his strike can only be deflected into the back of the net by under-pressure Valencia goalie Julen Agirrezabala. Barcelona three to the good in the 56th minute.
Emphatic from Raphinha this time! After a not-so-great finish for his first goal, the Brazilian star comes up with a sizzling goal in the 66th minute to compound Valencia's troubles. The ball came to him courtesy a defensive failure from the visitors, and the forward sure made them pay with a left-footed pile driver.
The rout continues. This time, it is the veteran striker Robert Lewandowski with a calm finish. Dani Olmo slips the ball to him and the Polish forward makes no mistake to slot in Barcelona's fifth goal in the 76th minute. Are there more to come?
This is now getting really embarrassing for Valencia. Lewandowski puts the ball in the back of the net again in the 86th minute, but the offside flag goes up. A VAR review follows and the goal is eventually awarded.
The ordeal finally ends for Valencia. After two minutes of stoppage time in the second half, the referee blows the final whistle and Hansi Flick's men wrap up a resounding 6-0 victory to make their first league appearance at the Johan Cruyff Stadium special.
Blaugrana also jump to the second spot in the standings in the process, as they now have 10 points from four games. Valencia, on the other hand, slump to 15th.
Barcelona now turn their attention to matchday 1 of UEFA Champions League's fresh season, where they visit Newcastle United at St James Park. The match will be played on Friday, September 19 at 12:30am IST.
