Nigeria and Egypt meet for the 10th time at the Africa Cup of Nations, with the Super Eagles winning five of the previous nine encounters. Nigeria have won all eight AFCON third-place matches they have contested, while Egypt have lifted the bronze medal three times in their history.

Play is underway in Casablanca, with Nigeria kicking from left to right and Egypt the other way in the first half. The Pharaohs' star forward Mohamed Salah is starting this game, in the quest for the consolation prize. His Merseyside future remains uncertain after the explosive comments he made against Arne Slot and the top management last year. Liverpool, meanwhile lead 1-0 against Burnley in the Premier League.

Salah is in the act right from the get go, delivering crucial passes in the final third and creating chances. Nothing threatening enough to trouble the Nigerian goalie yet, however.

Nigeria think they have the lead in the 36th minute, thanks to Paul Onuachu's header from close range in the six-yard box. But Egypt appeal for offside, and a VAR check ensues. The goal is indeed disallowed and the Pharaohs breathe easy.

The referee brings the first half to a close after four minutes of added time, and the scoreline stays at 0-0. Two yellow cards and a disallowed goal in that half for Nigeria, who came closer to taking the lead than Egypt. Let's see what the second half has to offer.

The players return from the mid-game interval and the second half kicks off. Nigeria now attacking from right to left and Egypt the other way. The Super Eagles make an early foray into the opposition box and Akor Adams even finds the back of the net, but the offside flag goes up straight away.

At Al-Awwal Park, Al-Nassr have taken an early lead against Al-Shabab in their Saudi Pro League 2025-26 matchday 16 clash. Cristiano Ronaldo is starting for the hosts as skipper, and expected to play a key role as the Jorge Jesus' men go searching for their first victory of the year.

The game is still goalless after 85 minutes, and if it stays this way, a penalty shootout would follow after full time. No top side looks forward to the lottery of penalties, but it's something they all have to prepare for.

The referee blows the final whistle after four-plus minutes of added time in the second half, and it ends in a goalless draw. It is time now for a penalty shootout to decide the winner of this third-place clash.

It's a dramatic start to the penalties, as Egypt and Nigeria both miss their opening spot kicks. Fisayo Dele-Bashiru's shot is saved, and so is Mo Salah's as the two goalies shine early in the shootout.

Omar Marmoush's shot down the centre is kept out by Stanley Nwabali, while Akor Adams scores to hand Nigeria the lead.

Moses Simon and Ramy Rabia both score for their teams as Nigeria retain their one-goal advantage.

Ademola Lookman comes up with the winning spot kick for Nigeria, who claim the penalties 4-2 to take third place yet again in the tournament. It's despair, meanwhile for Mo Salah and his teammates, who have no consolation after the hard-fought encounter.
