Hey everyone! Greetings and welcome to our coverage of the Copa del Rey final between Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad. Stay with us for the build-up and live updates from the intriguing match.
The match kicks off at 12:30am IST. The Atletico Madrid vs Real Sociedad, Copa del Rey 2025-26 final will be live streamed on the FanCode app and website in India. It will not be telecast on any TV channel in the country.
Atletico Madrid have won 80 of their 164 overall matches against Real Sociedad, with 38 games ending in draws. But La Real lead the head-to-head record in Copa del Rey with six wins as against four, including the 1987 final.
The Basque club has not defeated Atletico in any competition since the Copa del Rey pre-quarter-finals in January 2022.
This is how Atletico Madrid line up for tonight's final:
We are underway and the first half has kicked off.
Both teams are out there, fully set, and you can already feel that early nervous energy in the air. Players had their final warm-ups done, lineups confirmed, and now it’s all business.
We are barely a minute in and it’s absolute chaos early on.
GOAL! 0–1 Real Sociedad and it comes so quickly. Ander Barrenetxea rises brilliantly and somehow gets enough on the header from what looked like a tight, difficult angle. It’s a proper attacking leap, perfect timing, and the keeper has no chance at all.
What a start. No settling in, no feeling-out period, just straight into the game and Real Sociedad are already in front. The home side stunned early, and they’ll need to respond immediately or this could get tricky fast.
Atlético Madrid are starting to ask questions now.
Griezmann steps up over the free kick and whips a teasing ball into the box. It had just the right amount of curl, but the defence reads it well and gets it away before any red-and-white shirts can pounce.
Better from Atlético, though. They’re settling, pushing higher, and that delivery shows they’re already looking dangerous from set pieces.
We’ve got a whistle and Atlético are frustrated!
Griezmann goes down after a trip and the referee Javier Alberola is quick to react. No hesitation at all, foul given against him.
You can hear a bit of complaint from the Atlético players, but the decision is made and play stops right there. Momentum just gets interrupted as they were trying to build something.
We are level and it’s Ademola Lookman who brings Atlético right back into it.
19’ and 1–1, what a finish that is. The ball breaks kindly off a rebound on the edge of the box, and Lookman reacts fastest. No hesitation at all. He swings through it low, hard, and it zips straight into the bottom corner.
Unai Marrero dives but it’s already past him. No chance.
And just like that, the early lead is wiped out. La Real were ahead inside a minute, but Atlético have worked their way back into it. Momentum has completely shifted now, this is starting to open up properly

La Real are pushing again and Atlético are under a bit of pressure here. Real Sociedad win a corner after Marcos Llorente puts it behind under pressure. The set-piece gives them another chance to load the box.
And from the restart, it’s chaos in there! Carlos Soler finds space right in the middle and gets his shot away, but it’s blocked bravely by the Atlético defence. Bodies everywhere, last-ditch reactions, and Atlético just about survive.
La Real are knocking on the door again.
31’ and the referee finally reaches for the card.
Mikel Oyarzabal has been shown a yellow after one too many warnings. That late challenge earlier didn’t go unnoticed, and Javier Alberola decides he’s seen enough.
La Real’s skipper isn’t happy, but the decision stands. A bit of frustration creeping in now as the intensity of this game keeps rising.
Oyarzabal is right in the referee’s notebook.
He goes into a challenge and it’s blown up immediately, foul given against him. You can sense the tension building here, he’s walking that tightrope after already being booked.
La Real need him to calm it down, because every little decision is now being watched closely by the officials.
REAL SOCIEDAD HAVE THE LEAD!
Oyarzabal keeps his nerve from the penalty spot and slots it low into the corner. The keeper goes the right way but it’s too clean, too precise. Right at the end of the half, La Real flip the game back in their favour. Atlético head into the break trailing after a brutal late twist.
AND THAT’S HALF-TIME!
The referee brings an intense first half to a close with Real Sociedad leading 2–1.
It started like a dream for La Real with that early goal, Atlético hit back through Lookman, and just when it looked level at the break, Oyarzabal stepped up with the penalty to swing it back their way.
Plenty of momentum swings, plenty of bite, and this one is very much alive heading into the second half.
We’re back underway and La Real start the second half with the ball moving nicely.
Real Sociedad are calmly trying to control things, shifting it side to side, looking for gaps. It’s patient, almost too patient, and just when they try to slip a pass through, it goes wrong. An unintentional giveaway and the move breaks down.
The ball runs out and Atlético get the throw-in. Nothing dangerous comes from it, but you can already see La Real trying to slow the tempo and take control of possession early in this half.
Jon Aramburu goes in strong and brings his man down, and Javier Alberola immediately blows for the foul. No arguments really, it was a firm challenge and the whistle goes quickly.
Atlético will take that, they were starting to feel La Real settling into possession again, and this gives them a chance to reset and push up the pitch.
Julián Álvarez lets fly from outside the box and it’s a proper strike. Low, sharp, heading for the bottom corner, but the keeper gets down well and holds it!
Koke had slipped it to him nicely, and suddenly Atlético are alive in attack again. That was close, very close. La Real just caught sleeping for a second there.
Atlético swing it in and Sorloth is right there, rising to meet the cross. For a second it looks dangerous, the kind of chance you expect him to bury. But Unai Marrero comes out strong, times it perfectly, and gets there first.
Clean claim, no rebound, no panic. That was a real warning sign for La Real though, Atlético are starting to find those pockets in the box now.
Jon Gorrotxategi goes down under pressure and wins a free kick deep in their own half. Nothing fancy, nothing risky, just a needed pause in play.
Atlético were starting to press higher, but that gives Real Sociedad a chance to reset, push everyone out, and breathe a little in this tense final stretch.
It’s 2–2 and Atlético have fought all the way back.
Julián Álvarez delivers the moment they needed. Thiago Almada threads it through beautifully, right into his path, and Álvarez does the rest.
One touch, then a left-footed rocket into the top corner. No chance for the keeper at all.
This stadium has just exploded. From trailing again to level in the blink of an eye. We’ve got a proper thriller on our hands now, and it’s not done yet.
Julián Álvarez again, and he’s taking responsibility right at the death.
He sets himself outside the box and goes for it, right-footed strike, full power, but it’s blocked! Bodies throw themselves in the way and La Real survive that one.
What a moment. That could’ve been the winner in stoppage time, but Real Sociedad just about hold on. This is absolute chaos at the end.
No breakthrough in that first period of extra time, and we are still locked at 2–2.
Both teams have had their moments, both have looked dangerous, but neither has been able to land that decisive blow yet. Fatigue is starting to creep in, but there’s still everything to play for heading into the second half of extra time.
Forced change for La Real
Jon Aramburu can’t go on, he looks in real pain and has to be helped off. Real Sociedad are forced into a substitution in extra time.
Aritz Elustondo comes on to replace him.
Not the kind of moment anyone wants this late in such a tight game, especially with fatigue already biting hard. La Real will hope the change doesn’t break their rhythm as we move into the final stages.
That’s a wrap, we have a winner after a night full of twists, goals, and nerves right down to the shootout. Real Sociedad take the crown in Seville, and what a way to seal it. We’ll be back with another live blog soon. Until then, bye bye.
