Mumbai Indians have won the toss and elected to bowl first against Punjab Kings.
Punjab Kings: Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh(w), Cooper Connolly, Shreyas Iyer(c), Suryansh Shedge, Shashank Singh, Azmatullah Omarzai, Marco Jansen, Xavier Bartlett, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal
Mumbai Indians: Ryan Rickelton(w), Naman Dhir, Tilak Varma, Sherfane Rutherford, Will Jacks, Raj Bawa, Corbin Bosch, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah(c), Raghu Sharma
Deepak Chahar bowled a pretty decent first over in front ultra-aggressive PBKS openers - Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya. It is generally a high-scoring ground and Punjab will want these openers to give them a flying start as they have been doing in this tournament.
PBKS 7/0 (1)
Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran have once agains provided Punjab with a solid start. Though it's not as explosive as they are used to give but it's still a good in front of bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Deepak Chahar. The pitch looks a bit sticky and PBKS openers will have to assess what's the right target at this pitch could be.
PBKS 31/0 (3)
Nine runs came from the last over of the powerplay by Deepak Chahar but MI managed to get the wicket of dangerous Priyansh Arya, who was castled by Chahar for 22 runs. PBKS are off to a decent start that is a bit sticky, however, if due comes then it would get definitely to bat on and PBKS will have to set a score, keeping that in mind.
PBKS 55/1 (6)
Prabhsimran Singh slammed Raghu Sharma for two sixes in the 10th over to take 13 runs from the over. PBKS are in a strong position at the half-way mark of their innings and it's danger signs for MI as Prabhsimran Singh is looking in fine touch in Dharamsala today.
PBKS 89/1(10)
Shardul Thakur delivers his magic with the ball as he gets the wickets of dangerous Prabhsimran Singh and skipper Shreyas Iyer in a single over. After getting hit for a six on the first ball, Thakur entices Singh to play another big shot with a full time and the openers mistimes the shot and ends up giving a simple catch to the deep third man. He then bowls a beautiful outswinger to Iyer that deviates enough to beat his bat and takes the stumps down.
Then in the next Raj Bawa bolds Cooper Connolly with a back-of-the-length delivery for 22 and PBKS are now in trouble as they lose three wickets in a span of just 2 overs.
PBKS 122/4 (13)
Punjab has suddenly lost their way with back-to-back wickets. Shardul Thakur started the flow of wickets with two an over with Raj Bawa following the trend in the next over. Corbin Bosch then pushed PBKS against the wall by getting Shashank Singh trapped in front of the wickets. This is the last recognised batting pair (Azmatullah and Jansen) for PBKS unless they take the impact player option.
PBKS 140/6 (16)
Just as it was looking that Mumbai Indians have strangulated PBKS in the middle-overs, Xavier Bartlett and Vishnu Vinod let loose and slams Corbin Bosch for 21 runs in the 19th over to bring the momentum in favor of Punjab. runs from the last over of Burmah ensured that PBKS get over 200, which is a fine total on this pitch, which has something got the fast bowlers.
PBKS 200/8 (20)
Arshdeep Singh has started off things pretty well for Punjab as he gave away just 2 runs from the first over, that off against veteran Rohit Sharma. However, the pair of Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma can change gears anytime.
MI 2/0 (1)
Xavier Bartlett’s first over goes for 12 runs as Mumbai Indians continue their aggressive start in the chase. Ryan Rickelton looks in superb touch, smashing a six and a boundary to race to 35 off just 15 balls, while Rohit Sharma is taking his time at the other end. MI move to 40/0 after four overs, keeping up with the required rate comfortably.
Mumbai Indians finish the powerplay strongly at 59/0 with Ryan Rickelton leading the charge in Dharamsala. The left-hander has taken full advantage of the field restrictions, hammering 47 off just 21 balls with a flurry of boundaries and sixes. Rohit Sharma has played the supporting role so far, rotating strike while occasionally finding the fence. Punjab Kings have struggled to contain the scoring rate early, with Xavier Bartlett conceding 25 runs in his first two overs.
Punjab Kings finally get the breakthrough as Azmatullah Omarzai dismisses the dangerous Ryan Rickelton for a blazing 48 off 23 balls. Trying to clear the leg side once again, Rickelton fails to get enough elevation and holes out straight to Priyansh Arya at deep backward square leg. A crucial breakthrough for PBKS after MI’s explosive start in the chase.
MI 72/1 (8)
Punjab Kings continue their comeback in Dharamsala as Marco Jansen removes Naman Dhir right before the strategic timeout. After Mumbai Indians’ blazing start, PBKS have struck twice in quick succession to pull themselves back into the contest. Jansen used the short ball cleverly, forcing Dhir into a mistimed pull that ballooned off the top edge towards deep square leg, where Arshdeep Singh completed a safe catch.
MI 81/2 (8.5)
Yuzvendra Chahal gives a big blow to Mumbai as he gets the key wicket of Rohit Sharma for 24. Rohit misjudges the length of a relatively fuller ball and ends up losing his stumps. This is a timely wicket for Punjab as it has slowed down the flow of runs.
MI 103/3 (12)
A big over in the context of the game as Sherfane Rutherford (20*) and Tilak Varma (44*) takes 20 runs from the Yuzvendra Chahal over to shift the momentum in the favor of Mumbai Indians. This partnership between Varma and Rutherford is 61 runs strong now and PBKS need to break it otherwise they could take the match away from them in no time.
MI 149/3 (16)
Mumbai need 15 runs off the last over with Tilak Varma (63*) and Will Jacks on Strike (18*).
1st Ball- Will Jacks slams six off the first ball leaving 9 off 5 balls.
2nd Ball- Will Jacks places the ball for one run, leaving 8 runs off 4 balls.
3rd Ball- Dot ball! Tilak Varma tries a reverse ramp shot but fails to connect, MI need 8 off 3 balls.
4th Ball- Six! Tilak Varma plays a beautiful shot over covers for a six, MI now need 2 off 2 balls.
5th Ball- Six! Match over... Tilak Varma plays a pull shot over the square leg fence for a six and MI win the match by 6 wickets with 1 ball to spare.
That's a wrap from our end! We'll be back soon with another blog, until then, bye bye.
