LSG Vs DC, IPL 2026: Why Auqib Nabi Is Not Playing Today?

Delhi Capitals will play their opening match of Indian Premier League 2026 against the Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana International Stadium on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

One of the most talked about prospects of Delhi this year is the Jammu and Kashmir speedster Auqib Nabi, who took the entire country by storm with his exploits in the Ranji Trophy, guiding his team to their first-ever title.

Nabi took 60 wickets for J&K in just 10 matches, earning him a staggering INR 8.40 crore package from Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 2026 IPL auction.

Given his recent form and the exceptional amount of talent, it was speculated that he might get a game for DC from the start. However, it wasn't supposed to be as he wasn't included in the playing XI for the first game against Lucknow.

Though Delhi Capitals went with three quick bowlers in the first match, Auqib Nabi still couldn't find a place in the XI as Lungi Ngidi, Mukesh Kumar, and T.Natarajan got a place ahead.

While Ngidi and Natarajan have the edge over Nabi because of their prowess with the ball in the T20 format, Mukesh Kumar was his biggest competitor, given the same skills they possess.

Both bowlers are known for moving the ball from good, hard lengths, but Kumar was given the nod ahead of Nabi because of his experience. Although it's still in the early stages of the tournament, given its nature, he's destined to reach a stage where he can display his skills in the world's biggest cricketing league.

Delhi Capitals have won the toss and elected to field first against Lucknow Super Giants.
