IPL Digest April 17: Starc Surprised At RR's Super Over Choices; Munaf Patel Fined; Bat Checks Continue

A few teams have doing well but it is still quite early to say that any team is assured of a play-off spot. Things are moving fast and the developments in and around the competition never stop. Here are some of the updates that you might have missed regarding IPL 2025.

Starc Surprised

Rajasthan Royals chose to send Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal in the Super Over against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday. Mitchell Starc, the hero of the Super Over win for DC, was left surprised by the RR combination.

"It was a bit of a surprise to see left-handers come in with my angle as the ball was tailing back in. Got one wrong there with the side line no-ball, but we had the batting depth then to chase that down," Starc said in the post-match presentation.

Munaf Patel Fined

Munaf Patel, the bowling coach of Delhi Capitals, has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated One Demerit Point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Wednesday. 

Patel was seen in a heated argument on the sidelines during the match.

Bat Checks Continue

Riyan Parag became the latest member in the list of batters whose bats have not passed through the gauge that umpires are using to check bat size. The incident happened during the RR vs DC match on Wednesday. Earlier, Sunil Narine and Anrich Nortje too have failed bat tests.

Samson Injury Update

RR captain Sanju Samson could not take further part in the RR vs DC game after an issue around his abdominal region early in the chase. However, after the match Samson said that the injury is not that bad.

"It feels alright (his injury). I wasn't just ready to come back and bat. It feels alright now. We will observe it tomorrow and see how it is," he said.
