New Zealand skipper Michael Bracewell won the toss and sent India in to bat in the 2nd ODI, of the three-match series, played on Wednesday, January 14 at the Niranjan Shah Stadium, Khandheri, Rajkot.

India posted a competitive total of 284 for 7 in their 50 overs at the, with KL Rahul leading the charge with an unbeaten century and Shubman Gill contributing a fluent 56. Despite a strong start and regular contributions from the Indian batting line-up, the bowlers couldn’t completely halt New Zealand’s momentum in the chase.

In response, New Zealand were steadied by a massive 162-run partnership for the third wicket between Will Young (87) and Daryl Mitchell, which laid the foundation for the run chase. Young raced to his 80s before being dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav, but Mitchell carried on with a masterful unbeaten innings, guiding the Kiwis closer with measured aggression.

Mitchell finished on 131 not out, steering New Zealand to a seven-wicket victory in 47.3 overs to level the three-match series at 1-1. His composed century ensured New Zealand not only chased down the target but also celebrated one of their highest successful chases in India, denying India a chance to clinch the series on home soil.

Shubman Gill: We would actually have preferred to bat first, based on the last few games here. Even yesterday there wasn’t much dew, and the players feel the surface tends to slow down as the innings goes on, so batting first looked the better option. Personally, I felt really good in the last game - the rhythm and fluency were there, and it’s always nice to contribute. Hopefully I can build on that and produce a big one today. The middle overs were crucial for us last time.
