India overcame a wobbly start with the bat and some late hitting from the Netherlands lower-middle order to emerge victors by 17 runs in their last Group A match of ICC T20 World Cup 2026, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday (February 18). Suryakumar Yadav and Co thus waltzed into the Super Eights with an unbeaten group-stage record.
Shivam Dube produced an all-round show, hitting a 31-ball 66 before returning bowling figures of 2/35 to do a lot of the heavy lifting. Varun Chakravarthy (3/14 in three overs), meanwhile, produced another incisive spell with his mystery spin to claim three wickets and dismantle the Dutch top-order.
Despite top-order struggles against off-spinner Aryan Dutt, India were able to post a challenging total of 193 for six courtesy the blitzkrieg from Dube in the second half of the innings. Before that, Abhishek Sharma fell for a third consecutive duck, while other batters, including Ishan Kishan (18), Tilak Varma (31) and Suryakumar Yadav (34) made key contributions.

In response, the Netherlands were always behind the eight ball in the chase and doors on them were shut by Chakravarthy, who did the damage in the powerplay as well as in the middle overs. Suryakumar chose to give the final over to Dube over Jasprit Bumrah, perhaps to prepare for sterner challenges in the coming games. Despite two dropped catches, Dube was able to defend 28 off the last six balls as the visitors ended at 176/7 in 20 overs.
India were the first team to qualify from Group A to the Super 8, and Pakistan later joined them as the second team. But the arch-rivals are stationed in different groups now. India are in the same Super 8 group as West Indies, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
Netherlands, meanwhile, were already knocked out of the tournament. They missed a big opportunity to defeat the Men In Green in the opening game and since then, another defeat against USA sealed the fate for them.
India won the toss and opted to bat first against Netherlands.
