Mohammed Siraj has put to rest any doubts over Jasprit Bumrah’s availability for the fourth Test against England, confirming that the Indian pace ace will feature in the match at Old Trafford on July 23.
Bumrah, who has been central to India’s attack throughout the series, will be back in action in Manchester, Siraj said while addressing reporters. The right-arm quick also shared a brief update on fellow pacer Akash Deep, who is nursing a groin injury.
“Bumrah will play,” Siraj stated. “Akash Deep has a groin issue. He bowled today, and now the physios will assess him. That’s all I know for now.”
Siraj, the leading wicket-taker in the series with 13 dismissals, also spoke about the challenges of adjusting to changing team combinations and the discipline required in Test cricket.
“As the combinations keep shifting, we need to stay patient and keep bowling in the right areas,” he said. “If you watched the last match, England batted with a lot of patience, and honestly, that’s the real charm of Test cricket.”
India have always benefited from Bumrah’s presence, his control, pace, and ability to strike at crucial moments make him a game-changer across conditions.
Trailing 2-1 in the five-match series, India have been hit by injuries, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Arshdeep have been ruled out, while Anshul Kamboj has been drafted in to strengthen the pace attack.
Rishabh Pant’s availability remains in doubt after he suffered a blow to his index finger at Lord’s. England, meanwhile, carry the momentum after a thrilling Day 5 win in the third Test, taking the lead in the ICC World Test Championship series.
Reflecting on the heartbreaking finish, where Shoaib Bashir’s delivery slid off the face of his bat and rolled onto the stumps, Siraj admitted the dismissal stung.
“It obviously hurts when you get out despite timing the ball well,” he said. “The way our partnership was going with Jadeja and me, I genuinely felt I wouldn’t get out. That’s how confident I was. But things didn’t go our way, and I was really disappointed.”
“Had we pulled it off from there, the entire result could’ve been different.”
