Match 36 of the Pakistan Super League brings Hyderabad Kingsmen up against Islamabad United in Karachi, with the tournament edging into its decisive phase. Hyderabad arrive in red-hot form, riding a four-match winning streak and building serious momentum at just the right time.
Islamabad, meanwhile, are coming off a setback against bottom-placed Rawalpindiz, where both their batting and bowling units misfired, leaving them searching for a response.
The earlier meeting between these sides saw the Kingsmen chase down 153 comfortably, and they will take confidence from that result, while Islamabad will be under pressure to reset quickly and keep their campaign on track.
Islamabad United have won the toss and have opted to field.

And here we go, game on! The first roar of the evening as the action kicks off. Out walk Maaz Sadaqat and Marnus Labuschagne, the pair tasked with setting the tone, and there’s a quiet sense of anticipation already building. Maaz takes guard, eyes locked in, ready to face up first.
And charging in with the new ball, it’s Richard Gleeson, all set to fire the opening shot. Buckle up, this is just getting started.
Whoa, that’s come out of absolutely nowhere! Islamabad have struck first ball, yes, first ball! Gleeson steams in and bangs in a skiddy good-length delivery around off, and Maaz Sadaqat just goes for an ambitious swipe way too early.
It flies off the top edge, hanging in the air, there’s a moment of silence, and then Imad Wasim calmly moves in from third man, gets low, and snaffles it clean.
Gone for a duck, 0 off 1, and Islamabad are up and running in a flash. What a statement start this is.
Oh this is turning into a nightmare start, Islamabad are all over them. Gleeson is breathing fire here. Back he comes, hits that tight off-stump channel again with a lovely shape away, and Marnus Labuschagne tries to manufacture something, carving it through the off-side. But nope, thick outside edge. It flies straight to first slip and Faheem Ashraf makes no mistake, sharp hands, clean take.
Just like that, both openers are gone in a flash. Marnus walks back for 5 off 5, and Islamabad have ripped the top order apart early. This is absolute carnage up front.
And finally, a bit of counterpunch. Perera isn’t hanging around here. Faheem bangs it in short on middle and leg, and Perera just rolls his wrists beautifully, short-arm jab, pure timing! It flies uppishly through backward square leg, beats the infield, and races away. That’s a cracking boundary, and oh, they needed that badly.
Oh this is getting worse by the minute! Imad Wasim joins the party now and the Kingsmen are in absolute disarray. He floats one up, teasingly full and drifting into middle, and Glenn Maxwell tries to get fancy, switches stance, goes for the reverse sweep, but misses it completely. Thud, straight into the back pad.
That looked dead the moment it hit, and the umpire’s finger shoots up without a second thought. Maxwell doesn’t even bother reviewing, he knows it’s curtains. Gone for just 1 off 5, and halfway through the side is already back in the hut. This is turning into a collapse you can’t look away from.
Shadab Khan is absolutely on fire here, two in two, and he’s loving every second of it. This one is a clever googly, floated a touch fuller around off but darting through quicker than expected. Hassan Khan goes for a tentative lean forward, but it just doesn’t sit up for him.
He ends up chipping it tamely back towards the bowler, and Shadab doesn’t miss a beat, straightforward catch, all calm hands and instant reaction. Islamabad are electric in the field, and Hassan is back for a duck off just one ball. This is turning into a procession.
Imad Wasim strikes again and this is just relentless now. He goes quicker and flatter on middle and off, and once it lands, it just skids through low and fast.
Hunain Shah is stuck on the crease, tries to force a cut through the off side, but the ball doesn’t give him any room at all. It stays a touch low, sneaks under the bat, and crashes straight into middle and off. Clean bowled, no doubt about it. Hunain Shah walks back for 1 off 5, and Islamabad’s grip on this game just keeps tightening.
Islamabad United have absolutely steamrolled HYDK, bundling them out for just 80 in 15.5 overs after a ruthless, all-round bowling show. Richard Gleeson set the tone early, ripping through the top order in the powerplay with his tight channel bowling, and the damage never really stopped from there.
The spinners took over seamlessly, squeezing the life out of the innings with relentless control and discipline. Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim chipped in with crucial breakthroughs as the Kingsmen kept losing wickets at regular intervals, never really getting a moment to settle or build any momentum. It was a complete bowling performance, clinical, sustained, and brutal in execution.
Chase time is on, and there’s a quiet buzz in the air now. Devon Conway walks in with purpose, joined by Sameer Minhas at the other end. Conway takes strike, sets himself, eyes locked in as Mohammad Ali gets ready to open the attack for HYK.
It’s a modest target on the board, but after that demolition job with the ball, nothing feels simple here. One early strike and things could get interesting again, but for now, Conway is ready, and the chase begins.
Oh no, that’s a nightmare start to the chase! Mohammad Ali hits the pads with a gentle one, just begging to be put away, and Devon Conway obliges, but not in the way he wanted. He flicks it beautifully, sweet timing, but it goes straight down the throat of Maaz Sadaqat at fine leg. No mistake there.
Conway can’t believe it, out for a duck off 2 balls, and suddenly the chase has a jolt of drama right at the top. HYK are right back in this, and that came out of nowhere.
Oh that’s been launched out of here! Free hit, and Sameer Minhas wastes absolutely no time. Mohammad Ali drops it in on a hittable length, and Minhas just clears his front leg and swings through it with full intent.
Clean connection, straight up and over wide long-on, and it just keeps sailing! That’s a massive hit, disappears into the stands. First real statement in this chase, and Minhas is up and running in style.
Boom, that’s a proper statement shot! Mohammad Ali goes full, but it sits up just enough for Mohsin Riaz to rock back into it. He barely moves his feet, just stands tall and absolutely hammers it straight past the bowler.
Mid-off dives, stretches, even gets a hand up, but it’s already through. Racing away to the boundary on the left. That’s clean, confident, and Riaz is looking in no mood to hang around here.
Shadab Khan finishes things off in style and Islamabad United complete the chase in just 6.4 overs. Mohsin Riaz smashed 42 runs off just 18 balls and set up the chase. Shadab provided the finishing touches. The match was almost settled in the first innings when the bowlers of united wrapped up Kingsmen for only 80 runs. Richard Gleeson was on charge and so was Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim. They shared nine wickets between them and secured United's entry in the play-offs.
