Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul are in the middle, with Nissanka taking strike as Akeal Hosein prepares to open the bowling.
Mukesh Choudhary steams in and tests Nissanka early, but the Sri Lankan opener breaks the shackles in style, cuts one sweetly past point for a cracking FOUR! The rest of the over stays tight with disciplined lines, Rahul watchful at the other end, but DC keep the scoreboard ticking.
Mukesh Choudhary provided the breakthrough for CSK at the end of the fourth over, using a clever change of pace to dismiss Pathum Nissanka for 19 off 15 balls, as the batter mistimed a cross-batted shot straight to Dewald Brevis at mid-on, halting DC’s momentum just as he was beginning to accelerate.
Akeal Hosein delivered a massive breakthrough at the start of the sixth over, removing KL Rahul with a clever tossed-up delivery that gripped on the surface, forcing the batter into a mistimed inside-out shot straight to Ruturaj Gaikwad at cover. Rahul departed for 12 off 13, leaving DC in trouble, and from there, CSK tightened their grip with a disciplined powerplay effort. Delhi Capitals managed just 37/2 in the first six overs, losing both openers and failing to build momentum, while Hosein stood out with an excellent spell of 3-0-15-1, putting CSK firmly in control early on.
Noor Ahmad made an immediate impact in his first over, conceding just seven runs but picking up a crucial wicket at the end as Karun Nair threw his start away; after striking a boundary earlier in the over, Nair attempted a sweep off a delivery down leg but hit it straight to short fine leg, where Gurjapneet Singh completed a simple catch, leaving DC in trouble.
Noor Ahmad continues his impressive spell and strikes again to dent Delhi further, picking up a crucial wicket in the over to leave DC struggling. After conceding a boundary earlier, Noor bounced back brilliantly, using his variations to outfox the batter and trigger another collapse moment. Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs are now trying to rebuild, but CSK have tightened the screws with disciplined bowling and sharp fielding, firmly taking control at the halfway mark.
Gurjapneet Singh strikes right at the end of the over to push Delhi Capitals further into trouble, dismissing Axar Patel with a clever length delivery that climbed awkwardly off the surface. Axar, attempting a back-foot drive, was completely mistimed, the ball lobbing off the higher part of the bat straight to Akeal Hosein at cover, who made no mistake with the catch. Despite a six earlier in the over, DC lose their fifth wicket and slip to 69/5 after 11 overs, with CSK firmly in control.
Noor Ahmad continues to control the middle overs with another tidy yet productive spell, conceding 10 runs in the 15th over as DC try to rebuild. Tristan Stubbs looks to shift gears, picking up a boundary with a confident stroke, while Sameer Rizvi rotates the strike to keep things moving. There are no risks taken, but the singles and twos help Delhi inch closer to stability.
A steady over for Delhi Capitals as they continue to rebuild without taking unnecessary risks. The pair of Tristan Stubbs and Sameer Rizvi rotate the strike smartly, picking up singles and a couple to keep the scoreboard ticking. There’s also a wide in the over, but CSK maintain control overall with disciplined lines. Stubbs moves to 35 while Rizvi reaches 18, and DC progress to 116/5 after 17 overs, setting up for a potential late push.
A dramatic final over sees Delhi Capitals finish strongly at 155/7, thanks to Sameer Rizvi’s late fireworks. Anshul Kamboj starts with a big hit as Rizvi launches a six, and despite a run-out in the over, Ashutosh Sharma caught well short by a sharp direct hit from Ruturaj Gaikwad, DC keep the momentum going. Rizvi remains calm under pressure, finding gaps and then finishes in style with a stunning lofted six over long-off. He ends unbeaten on 40 off 24, giving Delhi a competitive total.
Sameer Rizvi’s late surge has given Delhi Capitals a fighting total after they were reeling at 69/5 on a tricky, slow surface. The pitch offered grip and turn, and CSK bowlers exploited it brilliantly, with Noor Ahmad picking up two key wickets. While Stubbs anchored one end, Rizvi’s counterattack powered DC with 78 runs in the last seven overs to reach 155, setting up an intriguing chase.
Ruturaj Gaikwad is the first one to perish and Chennai Super Kings lose their first wicket. Lungi Ngidi gives DC the breakthrough. Gaikwad looks to go over the top on the onside, but the miscues the shot. The ball only goes up and the deep fielder comes in to take a simple catch. CSK were looking to get a top start but suffers a slip up.
Urvil Patel looks to go downtown and he hits back-to-back sixes. Picks Lungi Ngidi for the assault and goes over the square leg area and the long-on to take 12 runs from two balls in the sixth over, ending the powerplay on a high. Patel has provided CSK with a good start on a tricky surface. They will look to take the momentum further ahead.
While Chennai Super Kings motor on, they also lose wickets. After a decent start in the powerplay, they lose a wicket in the next over as Kuldeep Yadav gets Urvil Patel stumped. Googly on off, Urvil tries to loft it too but misses it and loses balance. KL Rahul takes the bails off quickly with Urvil's feet still in air. Kartik Sharma joins a set Sanju Samson.
Top class batting show on display from Sanju Samson. As soon as Kuldeep Yadav returned for his second over, Samson teared attack on him, launching him for two sixes and a four. The sustained attack powered CSK ahead in the game, specially with DC's premier spinner going for runs. With it, he also brought up his half-century.
T Natarajan’s over goes for plenty as CSK shift gears in style, piling on 20 runs in the 15th over. Sanju Samson leads the charge brilliantly, smashing back-to-back sixes to put the pressure right back on the bowlers, followed by a crisp boundary to cap off a dominant sequence. Kartik Sharma plays his part with smart rotation, but this over is all about Samson’s authority at the crease. With this surge, CSK race to 126/2 after 15 overs, firmly taking control of the chase.
Kartik Sharma finishes it off in style! Natarajan bangs it in short just outside off, and Kartik rocks back confidently before smashing a powerful pull straight down the ground, past long-on for FOUR. That’s the winning shot! CSK chase it down comfortably, sealing the game with authority.
A convincing and clinical win for CSK as they continue their late surge up the table, now reaching 10 points and closing in on the top four. The bowlers laid the perfect foundation on a tricky surface, exploiting the grip and slowing nature of the pitch to restrict DC effectively, making Axar’s decision to bat first backfire. Despite an early wicket and a brief fightback from DC, Sanju Samson took complete control with a composed, high-quality knock, ensuring there were no further hiccups in the chase. With the target manageable, Kartik Sharma settled in before accelerating, and the duo comfortably guided CSK home. While Axar and Ngidi showed some discipline, the rest of the attack struggled under pressure. CSK will feel they’re peaking at just the right time, while DC are left with another frustrating result.
Thank you for joining.
