A brilliant start for Pakistan in the must-win Test as Mohammad Abbas dismissed Mahmudul Hasan Joy for a duck on the 2nd ball of the first over of the match. Abbas bowls beautifully in the corridor of uncertainty with the ball seaming away a tad, and Joy was stuck on the crease and ended up pushing the ball tentatively, with the ball taking the edge and falling into the hands of Salman Ali Agha in the second slip.
BAN 17/1 (3)
After losing their first wicket in the very first over, Tanzid Hasan Tamim (24*) and Mominul Haque (12*) have stabilized Bangladesh's innings with an unbeaten 40-run stand for the 2nd wicket. Both the batter have negated the new ball quite well, while scoring at the brisk pace of over five runs an over.
BAN 40/1 (8)
Mohammad Abbas is at it again. The right-arm medium pacer is not known for his express pace but his immaculate line and length force batters to make an error. Tanzid Hasan tries to hit across a hard length delivery by Abbas, only to end up giving a simple follow through catch to the bowler. BAN lose their second and Abbas is the bowlers who strikes for PAK again.
BAN 55/2 (13)
Bowled! Khurram Shahzad joins the party as he cleans up Mominul Haque for 22 and gives Pakistan their third breakthrough of the morning. Shahzad bowls a full length delivery outside off enticing Mominul to go for a drive but the batters ends he getting an inside edge and the ball crashes into the stumps.
BAN 66/3 (17)
Earlier in the match, Pakistan's pace bowler Hasan Ali was carried out on a stretcher after he was down on the ground from a head injury. He looked a bit dizzy and had to be carried off by the medical staff, which is not a good sign at all, especially in cases of a head injury. Pakistan head coach Sarfaraz Khan was seen having a chat on the sidelines with bowling coach Umar Gul, and both of them looked a bit worried. Let's pray that it's not a serious one. Meanwhile, Pakistan have entered this must-win Test with only four frontline bowlers, out of which one is out of the field.
BAN 78/3 (20)
Skipper Najum Hasan Shanto defends the last over of the 26th over and with his both set of players head back to their dressing room for the lunch break as first session comes to an end. Pakistan started the session on a positive note by picking three early wickets but the unbeaten 28-run stand between Shanto (26*) and Rahim (18*) has stabilized Bangladesh's innings. It could be termed as a shared session as BAN manage to maintain a decent run rate of 3.88 trhoughout the session despite losing early wickets.
BAN 101/3 (26)
The second session of the Day 1 of the 2nd Test in underway. Najmul Hasan Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim have the onus to Bangladesh's innings forward, while Pakistan, who are a bowler short currently will try to break this partnership as early as possible.
BAN 102/3 (28)
Wicket! Mohammad Abbas has been the Pakistan's best bowler in the series and he once again proves his worth as he breaks the threatening 4th wicket stand by getting skipper Najmul Hasan Shanta caught behind for 29. The ball angled across from Shanto, while he wanted to leave the ball, he got a bit late and the ball took his edge and went into the gloves of wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan, who took a good lowly catch.
BAN 106/4 (33)
Another Bangladeshi batter and this time its the veteran Mushfiqur Rahim, who's is trapped in front of the wickets by Khurram Shahzad for 29 runs. It was a full delivery targeting Mushfiqur's pads. He tries to clip it to the leg side but ends up missing it and the ball thuds onto his pads and the umpire didn't waste much time to raise his finger.
BAN 112/5 (37)
Pakistan have been on top of Bangladesh since the start of the 2nd session as they dismiss another batter in the form of Mehdy Hasan Miraj, who departs after scoring just 4 runs. Shahzad bowls a short ball and Miraj goes for the pull shot but wasn't able to keep it down and the shot goes straight into the hands of the deep square leg fielder.
BAN 127/6 (42)
Litton Das (34*) is going strong for Bangladesh and he's being partnered by Taijul Islam (7*). Both these batter have stitched an unbeaten 38-run stand between for the 6th wickets to stabilize Bangladesh's innings from the the flurry of wickets taken by Khurram Shahzad post lunch, which pushed the hosts on the backfoot.
BAN 156/6 (49)
Players head to the dressing for tea break as the second session of Day 1 comes to an end. Litton Das and Taijul Islam have stitched an unbeaten 52-run stand between for the 7th wicket to halt the flow of wickets. This session belonged to Pakistan as they picked three wickets and gave just 66 runs.
BAN 168/6 (54)
The third session of Day 1 of the 2nd Test is underway and straight away Sajid Khan strikes for Pakistan as he castles Taijul Islam and with it his gritty knock of 16 off 40 balls comes to an end. The 60-run stand stand between Litton Das and Taijul Islam for the 7th wicket is broken.
BAN 176/7 (57.1)
Litton Das has brought up a well-deserved half-century for Bangladesh when his team needed it the most. However, the world is still not done and BAN would want him convert it into a hundred, if they want to reach to a respectable first innings score in Sylhet.
BAN 206/7 (63)
What a century by Litton Das under testing condition. He came into bat when Bangladesh were tottering at 106/4 and since then he has single-handedly taken Bangladesh to a respectable total in wet conditions in Sylhet. The wicket-keeper batter elevated his innings after his half-century and slammed 13 fours and a six in his valiant innings.
BAN 247/8 (70.2)
Hasan Ali bangs it in short and offers width outside off, but Litton Das is all over it. He rises on top of the bounce, swivels into the pull and sends it racing wide of long-on. Fielders are out there, but they’re only spectators as the ball skips to the ropes. That boundary also brings up a fifty partnership for the pair, Bangladesh are building nicely here.
Hasan Ali broke the stand at last, removing Litton Das for a superb 126 off 159 balls as the batter picked out Abdullah Fazal in the field, ending a fine innings packed with 16 fours and two sixes.
Litton Das rescued Bangladesh with a brilliant 126, lifting them from 116 for 6 to 278 after a collapse looked certain. Pakistan had dominated early after opting to field, but Litton’s superb knock turned the innings around and gave Bangladesh a total they will gladly take. With some movement still on offer, Pakistan’s short passage before the break could be tricky.
Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal walk out to begin Pakistan’s reply, with Azan taking first strike. Taskin Ahmed has the new ball in hand and will start the attack as Pakistan begin their first-innings chase of 278.
Pakistan openers - Shan Masood and Azan Awais give their team a positive start as they finish the day at 21/0 in 6 overs. PAK bowled well in the first innings with Khurram Shahzad topping the charts with 4 wickets but Litton Das' stunning 126 off 159 balls was the highlight of the day as the wicket-keeper batter single-handedly took Bangladesh to a respectable total. He slammed 13 fours and a six in his valiant innings.
That's a wrap from our end! We'll be back soon with another blog on Day 2, until then, bye bye.
