Watch: Uttar Pradesh Policeman Highlights Suicides By Cops In Viral Video, Laments Apathy By Officials

He pointedly questions the increasing number of suicides among police constables, a matter that seems to go unnoticed by officials.

A circulating video has captured the voice of a police constable from the Baghpat police department in Uttar Pradesh, shedding light on the challenges faced by police personnel. The constable's candid account emphasizes the concerning lack of attention to the well-being of officers.

He pointedly questions the increasing number of suicides among police constables, a matter that seems to go unnoticed by officials. Expressing his distress, he shares a personal tragedy where he lost his sister on July 20, yet his leave request was denied. Compounding the issue, the distant postings of police personnel have taken them far from their families, prompting his appeal to abolish the Border Scheme.

Identified as Omveer Singh, the constable, through a widely shared video on X (formerly Twitter), urges an end to the silence surrounding these grievances. He states, “The purpose of this video is to highlight some issues faced by the police personnel. In the last 2 years at least 10-12 constables have committed suicides in UP. But no official has reacted to it. Yesterday too 2 police personnel committed suicide in Ayodhya and Meerut… Has anyone thought why these incidents are happening…”

Public reactions to the video have been empathetic and supportive. One user tweeted, "@myogioffice Heart breaking and there is an honesty in this guy's voice. Mental health is important for everyone, and leaves are essential to reside and rejuvenate and cope up. Hope the cm does take this issue seriously and kudos to ai veer Singh for talking about it." Another urged official attention, saying, "@dgpup @Uppolice @CMOfficeUP Kindly help him and all those who are facing such problems. They are human beings too."
