The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the controversy over the unified definition of the Aravalli hills and will hear the case on Monday.
A three-judge bench will examine issues arising from its November 20 order approving the MoEF&CC committee’s definition and halting new mining licences.
The court stressed the Aravallis’ role as a “green barrier” and upheld restrictions on mining to protect biodiversity and prevent desertification.
