The Supreme Court has asked the Centre-appointed monitoring committee to suggest legal changes by December 18 for better protection of people from the Northeast living in other parts of India.
The bench of Justices Sanjay Kumar and Sanjeev Sachdeva also directed that victims’ statements be recorded soon after any incident to avoid complainants becoming untraceable later.
The order came in a petition filed by advocate Alana Golmei after the killing of Manipur music teacher Vikram Singh Chongtham in Delhi last month.
