UPSC Civil Services Exam Result 2018: Meet IAS Topper Kanishak Kataria

Rajasthan's Kanishak Kataria, a B Tech graduate from IIT Bombay, has topped the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam, announced on Friday.

Kanishak Kataria, a B. Tech graduate from IIT Bombay has topped the civil services final exam, the UPSC announced this evening as it declared the results.

Kataria, who belongs to the SC Category, qualified the examination with Mathematics as his optional subject, Union Public Service Commission or UPSC said.

Speaking to media, Kataria thanked his family and his girlfriend for their moral support.

"It's a very surprising moment. I never expected to get the 1st rank. I thanks my parents, sister and my girlfriend for the help and moral support," Mr Kataria said, quoted by ANI.

"People will expect me to be a good administrator and that's exactly my intention," he added.

Who is Kanishka Kataria?

Kanishka Kataria has done BTech from IIT Bombay and opted for mathematics as his optional subject.

He is from Rajasthan and is currently working as a data scientist. Previously, he has been a member of institute's placement cell.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in a tweet congratulated Mr Kataria.

"Heartiest congratulations to Rajasthan's Kanishak Kataria who has topped the UPSC civil services examination and Akshat Jain who has secured second position. It's a great achievement and a chance to give your best to society," Mr Gehlot said in the tweet.

Union Public Service Commission released the results of the written part of Civil Services Examination, 2018 on the official website upsc.gov.in. on Friday evening.

Other seven candidates in the top 10 are Shreyans Kumat, Srushti Jayant Deshmukh, Shubham Gupta, Karnati Varun Redyy, Vaishali Singh, Gunjan Dwivedi and Tanmay Vashistha Sharma.

In a statement, the UPSC said a total of 759 candidates (577 men and 182 women) have been recommended by the Commission for appointment to various services like IAS, IPS, IFS etc.
