The CBI has registered an FIR and taken over the investigation into the October 13 murder of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa, Punjab.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann transferred the case after Jhota’s family demanded a CBI probe; police had arrested medical store owner Ashwani Kumar in connection with the shooting.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah welcomed the move but called for two other cases involving Gulzar Singh and Bikramjit Singh to be transferred to the CBI, criticising the Punjab government’s handling of drug-related cases.
