In Trump’s America, NYC Backs Mamdani — A Syrian-In-Law, Bengali-Speaking, Gaza-Vocal Mayoral Front-Runner

I will always be clear in my language and based in facts: Israel is committing a genocide,” the 33-year-old Zohran Mamdani had said. The Indian-origin lawmaker declared victory in the Democratic primary race for New York City mayor, while the former governor Andrew Cuomo conceded. While the Trump administration is determined to deport immigrants for speaking up about Palestine, the front-runner has been vocal about the war in Gaza . Just days before the June 24 primary, Mamdani refused to condemn the phrase ‘globalize the intifada’ — a slogan supporting Palestinian resistance against Israel. As for his unconventional campaign, Mandani has plans to bring down the cost-of-living through city-owned grocery stores, universal childcare, and other bold proposals. The Ugandan born Indian-American has given interviews in Bengali and has spoken about his marriage with a Syrian artist. In Trump’s increasingly right-leaning America, Mamdani unapologetically advocates inclusion.
