Operation Sindoor LIVE: Pakistan Shelling Kills 3, Injuries 10 Civilians Along LoC

Three civilians were killed in overnight heavy firing and shelling by Pakistan military across the Line of Control and International Border in Jammu and Kashmir, PTI reported.

During the intervening night of May 6 and 7, the Pakistan Army resorted to arbitrary firing, including artillery shelling, from posts across the LoC and IB opposite Jammu and Kashmir, as per reports.

According to PTI, among the deceased was a woman whose house was hit by a mortar shell in Mankote area of Poonch district, officials said. Her 13-year-old daughter was injured.

They said nine more civilians were also injured in different sectors of Poonch due to intense shelling by Pakistan, and their condition was stated to be stable.

"In view of the prevailing situation, all schools, colleges and educational institutions in Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch will remain closed today," Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar said on X.

Operation Sindoor LIVE: Indian airlines cancel flights; Srinagar airport among few shut

Indian airlines have cancelled their flights from various cities as a few airports, including Srinagar, have also been shut for operations in the wake of the armed forces carrying out missile strikes on terror targets in Pakistan.

Air India said that in view of the prevailing situation, the airline has cancelled all its flights to and from Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh and Rajkot till noon.

"Two international flights en route to Amritsar are being diverted to Delhi. We regret the inconvenience caused due to this unforeseen disruption," the airline said in a post on X.

According to SpiceJet, due to the ongoing situation, airports in parts of northern India, including Dharamshala (DHM), Leh (IXL), Jammu (IXJ), Srinagar (SXR), and Amritsar (ATQ), are closed until further notice.

"Departures, arrivals, and consequential flights may be impacted," it said in a post on X.

IndiGo, in a post on X, said that due to changing airspace conditions in the region, flights to and from Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh and Dharamshala are impacted.

Air India Express said that in keeping with prevailing restrictions, multiple flights on our network are impacted including cancellation of flights to and from Amritsar, Jammu, Srinagar and Hindon till mid-day.

"Due to the prevailing situation in the region, Srinagar airport has been closed for civil operations. As a result, our flights to and from Srinagar have been cancelled," Akasa Air said in a post on X.

Seven persons, including a woman and two children, were killed and 38 others injured Wednesday as Pakistan Army pounded dozens of forward villages with artillery and mortar shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

The Indian Army is responding to the shelling in equal measure, they said on the ceasefire violations by Pakistani forces after India carried out missile strikes against nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

All the seven deaths were reported in the worst-hit Poonch district with another 25 persons injured, the officials said.

Ten persons were injured in Uri sector of Baramulla district and three others were injured in Rajouri district, the officials said.

Operation Sindoor LIVE: Unidentified aircraft crashes in Punjab’s Bathinda, one farm labourer killed

At least one person was killed and nine others sustained injuries after an unidentified aircraft crashed and went up in flames in Aklian Kalan village of Punjab’s Bathinda district in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Govind, a native of Charkhi Dadri in Haryana, who was working as a farm labourer. There was no information about the pilot till this report was filed.

The aircraft crashed into the harvested wheat fields, about 500mts away from the inhabited area, around 2 am. The crash site is about 20 km from the district headquarters.

The US Mission in Pakistan on Wednesday issued a security alert advising American citizens to leave areas of active conflict, saying it is "closely monitoring developments" following Operation Sindoor launched by India targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan.

The security alert, titled ‘Military Activity and Closed Airspace’, said, “We are aware of reports of military strikes by India into Pakistan. This remains an evolving situation, and we are closely monitoring developments.

"US citizens are reminded of the 'Do Not Travel' advisory for areas in the vicinity of the India-Pakistan border and the Line of Control due to terrorism and the potential for armed conflict, and the US Department of State’s 'Reconsider Travel' advisory for Pakistan generally,” the alert said.

“We are also aware that airspace has been closed, and many flights have been cancelled,” it added.

Through the alert, the US Embassy and Consulates in Pakistan advised American citizens to "depart areas of active conflict if they can safely do so, or to shelter in place.” It said that US citizens should exercise caution and “leave the area if you find yourself unexpectedly in the vicinity of military activities, shelter in place if they cannot relocate, review personal security plan, keep a low profile and be aware of surroundings and carry identification and cooperate with authorities." In March, the US State Department issued a travel advisory to reconsider travel to Pakistan "due to terrorism and the potential for armed conflict”.

"Do Not Travel to: Balochistan Province and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Province, which include the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), due to terrorism and to the immediate vicinity of the India-Pakistan border and the Line of Control due to terrorism and the potential for armed conflict,” the advisory stated.

Operation Sindoor LIVE: Pakistan shells areas along LoC in J-K, nine killed 

Pakistan army resorted to heavy artillery and mortar shelling targeting forward villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, leaving nine people dead and 41 others injured, officials said. The intense shelling from across the border started shortly after Indian armed forces carried out missile attacks on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir to avenge the April 22 terror attack in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam that left 26 civilians dead.

The officials said the Indian Army is responding to the shelling in a befitting manner, resulting in many casualties on the enemy side after several of their posts engaged in firing were destroyed.

The worst-hit in the Pakistani shelling was Poonch district which accounted for all the civilian deaths, the officials said, adding 28 persons were also injured and the condition of some of them was stated to be critical.

Air India shared a travel advisory on Wednesday Air India flights to and from the following stations – Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh and Rajkot – are being cancelled till 0529 hrs IST on 10 May following a notification from aviation authorities on closure of these airports.

Pakistan’s top civilian and military leadership met in Islamabad on Wednesday morning to assess the fallout of India’s overnight missile strikes, which targeted nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired the National Security Committee meeting, joined by General Sahir Shamshad, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the heads of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, according to geo news.

The Indian army on early Wednesday launched missile strikes on nine terrorist locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), including Bahawalpur.

These strikes, code-named 'Operation Sindoor', mark yet another chapter in the long-standing military tensions between India and Pakistan.

1947 (first Indo-Pak War) The war, also known as the First Kashmir War, broke out over the then princely state of Jammu and Kashmir between the newly independent nations India and Pakistan.

The conflict continued until January 1949, when a UN-mediated ceasefire was implemented, resulting in the division of Kashmir between India and Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC).

1965 (second Indo-Pak War) The armed conflict broke out on August 5, 1965 over Kashmir.

1971 (Bangladesh Liberation War) The 1971 Indo-Pak War was triggered by Pakistani military's crackdown on East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and its demand for independence.

1999 (Kargil War) The 1999 Kargil War was a high-altitude conflict between India and Pakistan, fought from May to July after Pakistani troops and terrorists occupied peaks in the Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir. India launched 'Operation Vijay' to reclaim the territory, supported by the Air Force's 'Operation Safed Sagar'.

2016 (Uri Attack) Following the terrorist attack on an Indian Army base in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir, on September 18, 2016, which killed 19 soldiers, India conducted a surgical strike on September 28–29 across the LoC.

2019 (Pulwama attack) On February 26, 2019, the Indian Air Force carried out airstrikes on a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorist training camp in Balakot, Pakistan, in response to the Pulwama terror attack that killed 40 CRPF personnel.

The Indian armed forces conducted precision strikes on nine terror headquarters in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in pre-dawn operation today.

Among the targets hit in the precise operation were Markaz Subhan Allah at Bahawalpur, Sarjal at Tehra Kalan, Markaz Abbas in Kotli and Syedna Bilal camp in Muzaffarabad (all of the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed terror group).

A statement attributed to Azhar said those killed in the attack on Jamia Masjid Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur included the JeM chief's elder sister and her husband, a nephew and his wife, another niece, and five children from his extended family.

The statement further mentioned that the attack also claimed the lives of one of Azhar’s close associates and his mother, along with two other close companions.

Authorities on Wednesday carried out a large scale civil defence mock drill at various locations in the city under ‘Operation Abhyas’ (Operation Exercise) in line with the direction of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

According to officials, soon after the siren blew at 3.48 pm in various locations, the civil defence personnel, police, fire and emergency services personnel swung into action.

The drill included rescue operations in the event of fire, removing people from beneath the debris, evacuation of people from high rises and medical emergency services.
