The Indian national cricket team's first match of 2020 was a wash-out. Damp patches on the 22-yard strip at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati after a spell of shower saw first T20 International between India and Sri Lanka get called off without a ball being bowled on Sunday.

Thousands of fans turned up to witness their star players in action, and not a single soul left the stadium even as the groundstaff worked overtime to dry the pitch. Then, the umpires held several inspections but the dampness on the pitch did not allow a single ball to be bowled.

But the 35000-strong crowd at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, which was hosting only its second T20I match, entertained themselves with a mass singalong while waiting for news of pitch inspections before a final decision was announced shortly before 10 pm local time.

Then, they produced the moment which will be remembered for a long time. Their Vande Mataram moment. The Indian cricket team’s official Facebook page shared a video, with a caption that read: "When the entire stadium sings in unison."
