Mini has updated its sportiest offering, the Mini Cooper JCW (hardtop and convertible) to comply with the upcoming Euro 6 emission norms in Europe. While this is good news for environmentalists, enthusiasts need not worry as this update hasn't compromised on performance, or the sporty exhaust sound reminiscent with the JCW badge. Besides this update, the British carmaker has also made mild cosmetic changes to the exterior and introduced more customization options for the interiors as well.

The Mini Cooper JCW is still powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine which produces 231PS of power and 319Nm of peak torque. The two motors still continue to offer the choice of a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission. Even the acceleration figures are pretty quick with a 0-100kmph time of 6.3 seconds for the manual and 6.6 seconds for the auto ‘box. What's changed though, is that the hatchback now gets a petrol engine particulate filter integrated into the standard sports exhaust emissions system. This further filters out harmful particles and, as claimed by Mini, retains a distinctively sporty sound. This petrol engine particulate filter will be a standard component for all petrol engine Minis in the future.

On the outside, the Cooper JCW now sports minor changes like new 17-inch John Cooper Works light alloy wheels, a black exterior option with high-gloss black surrounds for the headlamps, rear lights and the radiator grille, LED headlamps and Union Jack LED taillights, as seen on the 2018 Mini Cooper launched in India earlier this year. Inside, you get new JCW bucket seats, wireless charging, Mini logo projection puddle lamp on the driver's side, and more options from the Mini Yours Customised range as well.

The Euro 6-compliant Mini will go on sale in European markets in March 2018, with booking likely to start early next year. In India, the Mini Cooper JCW is no longer on sale, but we expect this mild facelift to arrive here by the second quarter. Apart from the JCW, the entire 2018 Mini Cooper range was launched in May this year.
