The statement came hours after the Donald Trump administration announced new restrictions on H-1B nonimmigrant visa programme which it said is aimed at protecting American workers.
The present move, if it turns into law, will benefit thousands of highly-skilled Indian IT professionals who aspire to live and work permanently in the US.
Lifting the per-country cap on Green Card would mainly benefit high-tech professionals on H-1B work visas from countries like India, for whom the wait for Green Card is more than a decade.
Currently, most of the cards are issued based on family links and diversity visa, and a small section is given to people who are professionals, and highly skilled.
