In a video conference with state transport ministers, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also stressed upon speeding up proactive decision-making to accelerate economic development for which transport facilities serve as the backbone.
The real question here is whether the sky-high fines will truly be a deterrent. I am tempted to say yes, given the recent long queues at the RTO to update documents and the sudden spike in the sale of helmets.
The government got Rs 65 crore by selling data of approximately 25 crore vehicle registrations and 15 crore driving licences. However, is selling this data legal? Is the data actually ‘public’? Isn't it intrusion on privacy?
