The Kerala government has decided to withdraw the amendment to the Kerala Police Act following public outrage as it enabled stringent punishment for publication of material deemed to be defamatory. Opposition parties and even Left sympathisers had called out the amendment, saying it was against freedom of speech and media.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved, in principle, a law on chemical castration of rapists. The decision was made at a cabinet meeting and the law ministry presented a draft of the anti-rape ordinance, which includes increasing women’s role in policing, fast-tracking rape cases and witness protection.

India has blocked 43 more Chinese mobile apps, including Alibaba Group Holding’s e-commerce app AliExpress, in a fresh wave of web sanctions amid its border standoff with China. On June 29, the government blocked access to 59 mobile apps and on September 2, another 118 apps were banned, including PUBG and TikTok.
