Speaking to the media ahead of his team's tie against the in-form AFC Bournemouth, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag underlined what Jadon Sancho needed to do to return into the first-team fold. The England international has not played senior football since early September following a public spat with his head coach that saw him banished to the sidelines. (Football News)

"What will happen there, he knows what he has to do, if he wants to return it is up to him," Ten Hag said. "It is about a culture and every player has to match certain standards and it was about that."

Ten Hag's comments come a day after a report from Sport Bild stated that Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund were in talks concering a straight swap between Sancho and Donyell Malen. The rumour reiterated Man United's interest in the forward, claiming that the German giants would also accept a straight 30 million euros transfer fee to allow Malen a winter move away.

Sancho, meanwhile, continues to stare at an uncertain future despite his big-money move to Manchester United for Dortmund two summers ago. He has made 82 appearances thus far for the club, scoring 12 goals. Defending himself against Ten Hag after the Dutchman's previous comments, Sancho took to social media to air his grievances at his treatment.

"I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue, I have conducted myself very well in training this week... I've been a scapegoat for a long time which isn't fair!" Sancho had originally written.

At the time of writing, Manchester United are sixth in the Premier League, level on points with Tottenham Hotspur.
