After winning the toss, captain KL Rahul invited Aussie batters to bat first, which proved a good decision as India defeated Australia in the first ODI match of the three-match series played in Mohali. Indian bowlers bowled good lengths and managed early wickets to put Australia on the back foot. With Shami's fifer, guests were restricted to 276 in 50 overs. In return, the Indian opener gave a solid start with a 100-run partnership between Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill. Later captain KL Rahul completed the task and took India on the winning side with a fair amount of balls being left.
