The Centre has banned the manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use of single-use plastic items, including candy sticks and cutlery, from July 1, 2022. The thickness of plastic carry bags will also be increased to allow reuse. Scientists say only 9 per cent of the plastic ever produced has been recycled—the rest is buried, burned or dumped into oceans.

The Supreme Court doesn’t want the government to disclose anything that compromises national security vis-à-vis pleas seeking an independent investigation into the Pegasus row.
