In a major success for the security forces, four terrorists were killed on Tuesday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district under ‘Operation Trinetra II’. 

The terrorists were killed following a  joint operation launched by the Army and police in the Sindhara top area of the Surankote belt on Monday night which led to a firefight PTI reported.

The report quoting top Jammu and Kashmir police official said around 5 am on Tuesday, the gunfight resumed in which four terrorists were killed.

The White Knight Corps, in a tweet, said, "Operation Trinetra II. In a major cordon and search operation, acting on specific intelligence, four terrorists were eliminated in a joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police near Sindarah and Maidana villages in Surankote tehsil of Poonch district."

It said four AK-47 rifles, two pistols and other materials were also recovered, it said.

It added: "Elimination of these terrorists has avoided major terrorist initiated incidents in Rajouri and Poonch area."

The search operation is still underway, it said.

The security forces launched ‘Operation Trinetra II’ to neutralise hiding terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch.

Under the operation a joint search and cordon operation was launched by the Army and police to track down terrorists hiding in the border district of Poonch.

The operation entered the second day on Tuesday.

'Operation Trinetra II' was launched in Sindarah and Maidana of Surankote tehsil on Monday afternoon.

The operation led to an intense gunfight with hiding terrorists.

Under the operation, “intermittent firing was reported from the besieged area at regular intervals. Reinforcements were rushed immediately after the gunfight broke out”.

Besides, all escape routes have been plugged and a strict vigil was maintained throughout the night as the operation continued.

Under the operation, random searches and surprise checking of vehicles have been intensified across Poonch in view of attempts to push armed terrorists, weapons and narcotics from across the border.  

Security forces killed two terrorists and foiled a major infiltration bid along the Line of Control in the Krishna Ghati Sector of the Poonch district on the intervening night of July 16 and 17.
