Cyclone Mocha: Landfall Likely To Occur On Bangladesh-Myanmar Coasts

The Indian Meteorological Department has alerted about cyclone Mocha to occur near the Bangladesh-Myanmar coasts after May 11 as it has currently formed low pressure over southeast of the Bay of Bengal.

Cyclone Mocha will be reaching the Bangladesh-Myanmar coasts and has already formed a low-pressure area in the southeast of the Bay of Bengal. The Indian Meteorological Department has alerted people to be prepared but not panic.

The Indian Meteorological Department has explained in detail about the low pressure being formed over the southeast of the Bay of Bengal. Adding that, they informed, "The low pressure area over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea has become Well Marked Low pressure Area over the same region at 0530 hours IST of today, the 9th May 2023."

They also said that this pressure would likely intensify into a depression and move north-northwestward eventually till May 11 and finally recurve again north-northeastwards to reach the Bangladesh-Myanmar coasts.

According to reports, the fishermen and small ship operators have been asked not to southeast and adjoining central Bay of Bengal from today. 

The Sagar block Disaster Management Control Room in South 24 Paraganas are being prepared for all emergencies, shows the reports.

The IMD has also assured people not to panic about the cyclone and be prepared and careful about the occurrence. 

The occurrence of Mocha will result in a heatwave in southern districts of Bengal, including Kolkata. An official from IMD Kolkata has said, "People will have to reel under uncomfortable weather from Tuesday due to the indirect effect of Cyclone Mocha."
