Venice Film Festival 2026 has added a new film to Competition.
NAZA is the new entry, coming from the directors of No Other Land.
NAZA is the only documentary in the main competition.
The upcoming Venice Film Festival has made a last-minute addition to its main competition. NAZA is announced as the latest entry to wrap the full Competition section.
The film comes from Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, two of the four co-directors of the 2025 Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land. It has been produced by The Guardian, and James Wilson (JW Films) and executive-produced by Jonathan Glazer. Wilson and Glazer were recently producer and executive producer respectively on Venice 2025 drama and Oscar nominee The Voice Of Hind Rajab, about the final hours of a six-year-old Palestinian girl who was killed by Israeli forces in 2024.
NAZA Joins Venice Competition
The synopsis for the new film NAZA states: “Shot at night on the rooftops of Tel Aviv, the film reveals in detail the systems behind Israel’s calculated mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza”.
The film is the only documentary included in this year’s Venice competition section. It joins a starry lineup including Lance Oppenheim’s Primetime, Danny Boyle’s Ink, Casey Affleck’s Company, Werner Herzog’s Bucking Fastard, Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Look Back, Martin McDonagh’s Wild Horse Nine, Florian Zeller’s Bunker and more. Szor becomes only the second female director in the section alongside Woman Unknown director May el-Toukhy. No Other Land had won the audience award in Panorama as well as the Best Documentary at the Berlinale in 2024 before kicking off its eventual Oscar-winning journey.
NAZA marks Abraham and Szor’s first time competing for Venice’s Golden Lion, which will be awarded at the closing ceremony on Sept. 12. The 83th edition kicks off on Sep 2.
