Summary of this article
  • Bigg Boss, 20 house features surreal décor inspired partly by Alice in Wonderland.

  • Two secret rooms and nearly 104 cameras promise unexpected twists inside.

  • Mad Hatter and giant teapot define the new Bigg Boss house.

The Bigg Boss 20 house is ready for its newest set of contestants, and this time, the space itself comes with plenty of surprises. Designed around a surreal baroque aesthetic with elements inspired by Alice in Wonderland, the new house features unusual installations, colourful interiors, mysterious doors and nearly 104 cameras tracking every move inside.

From a giant pink teapot that flows into a couch to a hot-air balloon turned into a seating area, the house has been designed to feel dreamlike and unpredictable. The Weekend Ka Vaar area features a giant octopus holding chess pieces, while the lawn includes a snake-wrapped tree that doubles as seating.

The new house has been designed by art director Varsha Jain, who has taken over after Omung Kumar's 19-year association with the Hindi version of the show. Explaining the concept to HT City, Jain said, “Basically, our theme of the house was something extraordinary, something of the show in duality. So we sort of tried and used that to create walls and corners and furniture and display. Everything is revolving around that.”

She added, “It is a very colourful house, you see. Each wall has a different accent from bedroom to living to the exterior, all of them have a different colour tone. But the idea is about creating illusions.”

The Alice in Wonderland influence is particularly visible through the giant teapot and the Mad Hatter figure at the centre of the house. Jain said, “My first design element was this man in the centre, that’s where everything sort of started from. It’s a Mad Hatter, who’s sort of inviting you to the house. What is he inviting you to see is what is inside.”

The house also features two mysterious spaces, Room 20 and Room 2X, whose purpose has been kept under wraps. Jain teased, “It’s very interesting. The 2X room, the room 20, you know, when you see the show, you'll know what it is for.”

There is no jail at the start of the season, although Jain revealed, “There is no jail, but they would be bringing it in in the middle of the season.”

With 20 contestants, nearly 104 cameras and plenty of hidden surprises, Bigg Boss Hindi Season 20 premieres on September 6 on JioHotstar and COLORS.
