Maya Jama, the face of ITV’s ‘Love Island’, has found herself in a soup. According to reports, the makers of the reality dating show have issued a ‘flying ban’ on the show host. It has been reported that the channel took this step to reduce its carbon footprint.

As reported by Metro UK, ‘Love Island’ has changed the format of the show to prevent Maya Jama from taking constant flights. The show host would take frequent trips between the UK and South Africa while she was filming. The trips would include a 12,000-mile round trip for Maya and her team so that she could present the show for 10 minutes. According to reports, ITV was ‘mortified’ by the number of flights that she took.

To curb her flights, ITV has now tweaked its rules that ban Maya Jama from flying when the show is on air. Metro quoted a spokesperson for ITV saying that they have taken these steps to achieve the highest level of sustainability on the show. The spokesperson said, “We are entirely committed to tackling climate change and championing sustainability, and we always seek to influence our audience on how to live life in a sustainable way, through initiatives such as our pre-loved fashion partnership and reusable water bottles.”

Another source told Daily Mail how ITV has curbed her flights. The source said, “ITV was mortified when it became apparent Maya had been jetting across the globe with her hairdresser, make-up artist, and stylist. This year there is absolutely no chance of her being able to go anywhere.”

Maya Jama took over from Laura Whitmore as the presenter of ‘Love Island’ in 2022. She was also hosting a spin-off of this show.
