AI Integration In Pedagogy At The School Of Management, PDEU

Redefining Management Education Through Artificial Intelligence

The School of Management (SoM) at Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU), formerly known as Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU), has offered forward-thinking approaches to teach its students about managing businesses as an enterprise rather than in isolation. As one of the most highly-ranked institutions, holding a maximum NAAC Grade A++ accreditation mark, SoM has long incorporated innovative technologies/methodologies into the academic framework of all courses at this institution, as one key example. One significant component of such innovations has been the use of AI and ML technologies within its course offerings. By way of research conducted and strategic alliances formed with industry partners, SoM has established a complete framework to provide students with AI-based learning via an "integrated" model where they practice using both theoretical and practical information (simulation).

The incorporation of AI and machine learning in education is one great paradigm change in teaching methodologies. This is well represented at the School of Management through the use of simulations in all business management domains, such as entrepreneurship, economics, human resource management, marketing, finance, operations, and strategic management. The students started off from basic level simulations like “Mango-Mania” and advance to higher levels of simulations like “The Board Room.” In essence, simulations are like real-life experiences where student decisions affect the outcome, just as business decisions do.

Interactive on-line simulation helps participants learn micro factors around business scenarios and help them, develop management skills. The simulation called Finac is about making profit and cost decisions of a firm in a monopolistic form of market structure. Participants take up to eight decisions. For example, Production Decision in alignment with the concept of Marginal revenue; Pricing with focus on elasticity of demand; Decisions related to Research; and development, advertising, training, alternate channel budgets impact the firms revenues and profitability.

Mango-mania is an interactive on-line simulation that helps participants learn basic Entrepreneurial traits without the jargon. The game requires them to apply simple logic in a decision-making setting.

Money manager is another simulation where participants realize the importance of cash flow management for the success of a business. Students need to manage up to 13 decisions, basically focused on payables and receivables, which in turn impact their position of profitability. In totality, AI embedded simulations enrich graduate outcome.

The School of Management has adopted various layers of artificial intelligence models that can be used to teach cross cultural understanding of work place dynamics, financial market place structure, customers’ retention and valuation matrices, operational research pitfalls, retail sector issues, supply chain cost and others.

Beyond classroom simulations, SoM emphasizes hands-on financial learning through initiatives led by student bodies such as the Finance Committee (FINCOM). One of event organized by finance committee involved AI embedment into financial scenario creation, social networking around behavioral finance and market research via simulated technology to assist people to understand world of finance and managing financial challenges.

AI engines were adopted to enable students engage in the apt understanding of educational purpose vide differential analysis of emerging AI technologies that could be used to make the students learn about portfolio management, behaviors of the markets, and how risks can be managed within the learning environment.

By embedding AI into both academic and co-curricular activities, School of Management enables observational and experiential learning at scale. Institution continues developing the process of teaching by employing new technology to ensure that the learners have all the necessary competencies to be able to work in an environment dominated by data.
