Lyon Appoints Former Italy Defender Fabio Grosso As New Coach Amid Struggles

Grosso has a contract with the club until the end of the season, with an option for an additional season.

On Saturday, struggling French club Lyon signed former Italy defender Fabio Grosso as its new coach.

Grosso takes over for Laurent Blanc, who left by mutual consent after a disastrous start to the season. Lyon is last in the table, with only one point after four games.

Lyon stated that Grosso, 45, has a contract with the club until the end of the season, with an option for an additional season.

He will witness the home game against promoted Le Havre on Sunday night before taking over as coach on Monday.

The game against Le Havre will be overseen by Deputy Coach Jean-Francois Vulliez.

Grosso won the World Cup with Italy in 2006 as an attacking left-back. From 2007 to 2009, he appeared in 75 games for Lyon, helping the team win the league and French Cup double in 2008 at a period when it dominated French soccer.

Grosso demonstrated his coaching abilities last season when he led Italian team Frosinone to the second-tier Serie B title.
