Tonight's semi-final clash is a repeat of the 2021 AFCON final, where Senegal defeated Egypt on penalties to lift their first-ever continental title. That night in Yaounde, Sadio Mane scored the decisive spot-kick while Mohamed Salah had been denied the chance to take one.
Now, three years later, the two former Liverpool teammates meet again on opposite sides, with Mane spearheading Senegal's attack and Salah carrying Egypt's hopes of ending a 16-year AFCON drought.
Referee Pierre Atcho blows his whistle, and Nicolas Jackson takes the kick-off for Senegal to get us underway. The winner of this match will take on either Nigeria or Senegal in the finals, so stay tuned!
It has been a high intensity start from Senegal, who are pressing high and hard. It bears fruit, as Abdelmaguid has a slight grab on Jackson's shirt and earns the first yellow card of the game. He will miss the finals, if Egypt secure qualification.
A brilliant through ball from Ashour almost set Marmoush free, but the Man City forward was hacked down by Koulibaly. The referee immediately shows the Senegalese skipper a yellow card, which means that he will miss the AFCON final for the second time in his career, if Senegal secure qualification.
A miserable end to Koulibaly's night. Already suspended from the finals, the centre-back appeared to hurt his groin during a touchline duel against Marmoush. Attempting to soldier through, Koulibaly has finally had too much and is subbed off by, with Mamadou Sarr coming on in his place.
Senegal are pushing hard and dictating the tempo of the game, but there's a lack of fluency in the opponent's third for the Lions of Teranga. A goood ball from Pape Gueye was received by Mane on the left post, but his cut back was gathered by El Shenway before it could reach Jackson.
It's all ticking off now. A crunching tackle from Salah on Mane wins the Senegal winger a free-kick. The referee, Pierre Atcho, looked like he put his hands in his pocket but opted against booking Salah. This leads to a heated moment between the two coaches on the touchline, with staff having to come in and diffuse the situation.
The late spice has cooled down, with the referee sorting the issue out between the two head coaches. Egypt receives a free-kick in the first minute of the four minutes of added time, but it misses everyone and goes behind for a corner. The referee brings the first half to an end, and it's goalless at the break, despite a lot of attacking intent shown by both sides.
Both sets of players are out of the tunnel, and Egypt get the second half underway. It has been a rather cagey first 45 minutes, so we have everything to play for in the second half.
One change at the break for both sides. Egypt, who did not have a shot on target in the first half, bring on Trezeguet in place of left-back El Fotouh. Senegal replace Habib Diarra, already on a yellow card, with Lamine Camara.
10 minutes into the second half, and it has been more of the same with the match yet to spark to life. Senegal have continued to boss the ball, but have been pretty toothless in front of the opposition box. Egypt, meanwhile, are happy to sit back and wait for the counter. Safe to say, not the best viewing for the neutrals in Tangier.
A rare foray forward from Egypt, with Marmoush teeing up Ashour, whose lay-off for Trezeguet is a bit too powerful. The winger keeps the move alive, but his flick-back to Ashour results in the latter fouling Diatta, and Senegal have the ball back again.
Senegal continue to knock on El Shenawy's goal as the corner count keeps racking up. The ball in from Diatta is a poor one as it fails to clear the first man. Egypt, however, fail to get the ball away, and Ndiaye has a snap shot from outside the box, but it's high and wide. Just over 15 minutes left before we go to extra time.
A touch of class from Sadio Mane, and Senegal are ahead!! Senegal continue to push forward, and Camara has a hopeful shot from 30 yards out. It clatter against an Egyptian player and drops fortuitously in front of Mane, who hits it with his right foot past El Shenawy.
With less than 10 minutes of normal time remaining, Egypt make a change, bringing on Zizo in place of Rami Rabia. Interestingly, the Pharaohs are yet to have a shot on target, but that needs to change soon if the want to keep their AFCON run alive.
The fourth official holds up his board to indicate a minimum of five minutes. Five more minutes of Egypt to find an equaliser, despite having no shots on target yet. It's not looking likely for Hossam Hassan's side.
It's all over in Tangier, and Senegal have booked their place in the final. Heartbreak for Egypt, but they have been second best for throughout the 90 minutes tonight.
If this is indeed Salah's final AFCON appearance – with the Liverpool forward now 33 – he might be one of the best players to never win the Africa Cup of Nations. This also marks his fifth loss to former teammate Sane in national team colours.
A lot of talking points for the analysists, but the semi-final match ends in favour of the Lions of Teranga. They will face the winner of the Nigeria vs Morocco match.
