The whistle blows and we’re underway in Madrid as Real Madrid vs Sevilla begins. The Santiago Bernabeu is buzzing, and everything is set for a thrilling La Liga clash.
Early danger for Sevilla. Aurelien Tchouameni threads a perfect ball through to Fran García, whose driven effort across goal is smartly saved by the Sevilla keeper, earning Real Madrid the first corner.
Sevilla grow into the game, calmly building from the back. With Real Madrid sitting off and pressing lightly, the visitors link neat short passes to settle and gain confidence in possession.
Mbappe so close. A superb lofted ball finds Kylian Mbappe on the right, and he attempts an acrobatic scissor kick that whistles just wide of the far post. The Bernabéu gasps.
Big Chance. Dean Huijsen rises highest to meet Rodrygo’s corner, beating Gudelj in the air, but his header flies just over the bar. Real Madrid are turning the screw now.
Kylian Mbappe again. Slick, textbook build-up from Real Madrid as Arda Güler slips Mbappe through, but the Frenchman’s placed effort drifts just wide. The pressure is relentless.
GOOOOAAAL REAL MADRI.! Jude Bellingham breaks the deadlock, latching onto a brilliant Rodrygo set-piece delivery to fire the hosts into a 1-0 lead at the Bernabeu.
Stoppage time at the Bernabeu. Just one minute added as Real Madrid hold the edge, with Sevilla given a final chance to respond before the break.
Real Madrid head into the break with a 1-0 lead over Sevilla after steadily turning the screw. Jude Bellingham’s header from a Rodrygo set piece made the difference in a half where Madrid grew in control, while Sevilla showed composure in spells but lacked a cutting edge.
We’re back underway at the Santiago Bernabeu as Real Madrid and Sevilla resume for the second half. Sevilla look for a response, while the hosts aim to build on their advantage.
What a save. Thibaut Courtois produces a superb leg stop to deny Isaac Romero from point-blank range, keeping Real Madrid in front as Sevilla go close to an equaliser.
Sevilla are down to ten men. Marcao picks up a second yellow after bringing down Jude Bellingham, and the referee has no hesitation in showing red. A huge moment in the match.
What a brilliant save. Mbappe slips Rodrygo in, he turns and fires through traffic, but Odysseas Vlachodimos reacts superbly to palm it away and keep Sevilla alive.
Penalty for Real Madrid, and Mbappe delivers. Juanlu Sánchez clips Rodrygo as he bursts into the box, and the referee immediately points to the spot. Kylian Mbappe steps up and coolly slots it home, making history in the process.
That’s Mbappe’s 59th goal of the calendar year for Real Madrid, drawing him level with Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2013 record. Magnifique at the Bernabéu.
NO PENALTY! The referee overturns his initial call after a VAR review, judging there wasn’t enough in Oso’s challenge on Jude Bellingham. Play resumes, and Sevilla breathe again.
COURTOIS AGAIN! Thibaut Courtois pulls off yet another stunning save, reacting sharply to deny Alfon González from close range as Real Madrid preserve their 2-0 lead right at the death.
The final whistle sounds in Madrid. Sevilla showed grit and fought on despite going down to ten men, but Real Madrid stayed composed, did the job, and secured all three points with a 2–0 victory.
