The referee for tongiht's match is Japan's Yusuke Araki. The 39-year-old is one of the best referees in AFC, and has already officiated three club-level matches this season - two in the Qatar Stars League and one in the AFC Champions League Elite.

In those three matches, he brandished 11 yellow cards and one penalty kick - but no red cards.

The anthems are sung, hands are shaken, and formations taken. The referee blows his whistle, and Oman kick off in search of their maiden World Cup appearance, but they are up against a mighty Qatar side. Who will prevail? Stay tuned!

A very lively start to this match from both sides. Belgium-born Edmilson Junior is proving to be a thorn in Oman's side with his pace, but their forwards, especially Al Sabhi, are looking threatening with their high press. It is gearing up to be a perfect opener.

The opening 15 minutes have been dominated by Qatar, who have almost 90% of the ball as well as three shots, though none on target. However, for all their dominance, Omani goalkeeper Al-Mukhaini is yet to be under any sort of trouble.

The match is becoming increasingly cagey. Al-Manai becomes the first player to be booked as the winger clatters into the back of Al-Yahmadi, sending the Omani number 10 down on the pitch. He receives some attention from the phyios, and out comes the stretcher. It is not looking good.

Good news for Al-Yahmadi as he doesn't need to stretcher, and walks of the pitch with the help of the phyios. However, Oman look like they will be forced into an early change. Playing with 10 men, Al-Sabhi gets the first shot on target of the match, turning masterfully and stinging the palms of the goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, Al-Rawahi comes on in place on the injured Al-Yahmadi, who leaves on the stretcher with head in his hands.

It has been a really dull match so far, with neither team showing any creativity in the final third. Only one shot on target from Oman, and none so far from Qatar despite having seven attempts. With just five minutes of normal time left in the first half, both teams are showing a tiny bit more urgency to go into the break with an advantage.

The best chance of the match falls to Oman, as a corner is floated into the box and is met by the head of Al-Rawahi. However, the powerful header goes just over the bar. Meanwhile, the fourth official holds up his board - a minimum of four minutes to be played.

The referee blows the whistle, and it's half time in Doha with the scores still nil-nil. It has been a riveting and cagey affair, where chances are at a premium, but the best one fell to Al-Rawahi at the very end. It's all left to play for in the second half, coming up soon.

Both sets of players are out on the pitch, and the second half is underway. The first Group A fixture is all for the taking, with neither team able to break the deadline in the first 45 minutes. Stay tuned! One change from Qatar in the break, as Abdulaziz Hatem replaces Al-Manai.

A much more improved performance from Qatar in the opening 10 minutes of the second half. Afif had a half-decent opening with his solo run in the 49th minute, and since then, the home side have increased their stranglehold on the match. Oman, to their credit, have maintained their shape really well.

It's Qatar's turn to make a forced change, with Khoukhi unable to continue and being replaced by Lucas Mendes. Meanwhile, Oman are piling on the pressure at the moment, with Al-Harthi trying to put the ball into a dangerous area with his long throws - though it's yet to work. Al-Rawahi, meanwhile, earns a yellow card for pulling down the goalkeeper.

This games looks increasingly destined to be decided by a moment of personal brilliance or error. As of the moment, both teams are at least trying to push hard for the opener, but the final ball has been missing all night. It's all about which team will blink first in terms of throwing numbers forward. 15 minutes plus stoppage time left to play.

Six minutes plus added time left on the clock, and Omani fans are in full force in the stands, actually believing that their team can pull off a stunning win in this match. However, despite their attacking intent, there's the small matter of actually getting the ball into the back of the net, and neither side have looked close to doing that all night.

The fourth official holds up his board to indicate a minimum of five mintues to be played at the end of the regulation ninety. With Qatar in the ascendancy in the last few minutes, manager Lopetegui will be hoping that the home side can pip a late goal.

A very good chance at the end for Muntari, but his shot is caught well by Al-Mukhaini. That was as close as either side came to a breakthrough in stoppage time, with the referee's whistle bringing on an end to a closely fought, but an ultimately drab, opening Group A fixture in the World Cup AFC Qualifiers.
