The team that wins the Kolkata Derby will march straight into the semi-finals but in case of a draw, East Bengal will advance provided Dempo don't win their match against Chennaiyin FC by five or more goals.

However, if Dempo win exactly 4-0, it will all come down to a draw of lots between the Golden Eagles and the Red and Gold Brigade, provided the derby ends goalless.

If Dempo win by a four-goal margin despite having conceded against Chennaiyin, and the derby ends goalless, then the Goan club will qualify. In essence, East Bengal hold the upper hand, but Mohun Bagan's fate is still in their own hands — win, and they are through.

With the pre-match formalities out of the way, the players take their position on the pitch, and with the referee's whistle, East Bengal get tonight's virtual knockout match underway. Which Kolkata giant will book their place in the semi-finals? Stay tuned!

It has been quite physical in the middle of the park, with the ball possesion being evenly distributed between both sides. East Bengal are trying to build up through the flanks, but are yet to find any bit of gap in defence.

East Bengal have been enjoying a bit more possession, with Mahesh winning the midfield battle against Apuia. A great interception from Rashed finds Ahadad in he right flank. The Moroccan floats in a menacing cross in the box, but Kaith is alert and grabs on to it.

The opening 15 minutes are done, and East Bengal have enjoyed almost three-fourths of the ball and also having the only shot on target of the match. Mohun Bagan, despite their star studded lineup, have been really quiet so far.

East Begal won possession in the middle of the park, and Miguel's through ball almost found Ahadad, but Alberto makes a crucial interception to cut out the danger. EBFC are continuing to put pressure on MBSG defence, but the opening goal is yet to come.

Minutes after Bipin Singh saw his header crash against the bar, Jay Gupta is hacked down by Apuia. The EBFC bench are furious at the challenge, and the tempers have already started flaring in this Kolkata derby. The referee stamps his authority by booking for Miguel Figueira and Subhasish Bose.

Another excellent bit of build-up play by East Bengal, with Mahesh's shot going just wide of the target. Ahadad is appealing for a penalty, but he went down far too easily under pressure from Subhasish.

The Mariners try to push forward in the other direction and win a corner. The resulting ball in the box is floated in by Thapa, but it is headed by the defence.

The first drinks break is over, and Mahesh is confirmed to be yellow carded, joining Figuera and manager Oscar Bruzon in the referee's books. Mohun Bagan are trying to slow the pace of the game, trying to see out the first half without conceding anything.

First shot on target for Mohun Bagan, and it comes from the livewire that is Apuia. Liston Colaco did very well to outmuscle Rakip and cut it back to find Apuia. The ex Mumbai City midfielder sorted his feet out before having a shot from 25 yards out, but it was quite central at Prabhsukhan.

With the match opening up a little bit, the regulation 45 minutes are up. The fourth official holds up his board and indicates a minimum of two minutes to be played. Can any side find a late, late opener before the break?

Referee Harish Kundu blows his whistle, and the first half comes to an end. East Bengal have thoroughly dominated, with Bipin Singh's header crashing against the bar. However, it's still goalless at Fatorda, with everything left to play for in the second half.

Both players are out on the pitch, and Mohun Bagan get the second half underway. The Mariners come out with blistering pace, with Apuia finding the head of Liston with a terrific lobbed pass, but the effort is not on target. Warning signs for East Bengal.

MBSG have been the better side in the early stages of the second half. Sahal wins a free-kick after he is pulled down by Saul. The resulting ball into the box from Thapa evades every single Mohun Bagan player in the box.

With Mohun Bagan dominating the ball, East Bengal win posession on the flanks and come forward with Bipin on the left. He plays it to Saul, who's first-time through ball misses the run of Bipin by inches, and Mohun Bagan see the danger out.

East Bengal are growing into the second half. Mahesh's blocked shot is chipped towards Ahadad in the box. The flag stayed down, but the Moroccans shot was tipped over the bar by Kaith.

The resulting corner at the hour mark is palyed into the box, and Jay Gupta's header is straight at Kaith. It was a free and unmarked header from the EBFC player, who should have done much better.

MBSG shore up their attack with Jason Cummmings coming on. The substitute is eager to make an early impact, and his floating ball in the box almost found the head of Manvir, but it was just over. The game is really stretched at the moment.

Another peach of a delivery from Cummings finds Tom Aldred, but the centre-back's header is just over the bar. East Bengal players are not happy, asking for offside, but replay shows that Aldred was well on.

Substitution for MBSG. Coach Antonio Habas finally rings in the changes, bringing on his star trio, Petratos, Robinho, and Tangri. The Mariners are clearly going all-in now, hoping these big guns can break the deadlock and spark the first goal of the match.

Concern for East Bengal. A worrying moment as skipper Saul Crespo goes down and has to be stretchered off the field. The midfielder looks in pain, and that’s the end of his night. Souvik comes on to replace him as East Bengal reshuffle in the dying minutes.

Five minutes have been added as an injury time in the second half. Hopefully one of the team brings a late goal to end this contest on an exciting note.

East Bengal are through to the Semis. What a tense finish at Salt Lake! The referee blows the final whistle, and it’s East Bengal who celebrate as they hold Mohun Bagan Super Giant to a goalless draw. The Red and Gold Brigade march into the semifinals from Group A.

Both teams finish level on six points, but it’s Oscar Bruzon’s men who go through thanks to their superior goal difference. A disciplined defensive display and composure under pressure see East Bengal edge past their arch-rivals in a high-stakes Kolkata derby. The fans are on their feet, it’s East Bengal’s night.
