The Japanese side suffered a demoralising 3-1 loss to Argentina’s River Plate in their first game. Going 2-0 down right after half-time, Yusuke Matsuo’s 58th-minute penalty gave some hope to Urawa, but Maximiliano Meza’s 73rd-minute goal put the match to bed.

Maciej Skorza’s side need to secure at least a draw to keep their Club World Cup campaign alive, but it will not be an easy task as Urawa have lost both of their previous CWC fixtures against European sides.
