Singapore 1-1 India (Asian Cup Qualifiers, 2025)
Singapore 1-1 India (Friendly, 2022)
Singapore 2-0 India (Friendly, 2012)
After the national anthems and handshakes with dignitaries, the players have taken their formation on the pitch. Referee Mohammad Issa blows the whistle, Mahesh Singh gets the ball rolling in tonight's match. Stay tuned!
A very bright start from the hosts, knowing that a win can keep them in contention. The Indian backline have pressed the Singaporean forwards, especially Ikhsan Fandi, who has scored twice in two games against the Men in Blue. Apuia and Prabhu are not letting Singapore utilise the flanks at all, and, for now, no clear-cut chances have been created by the visitors.
India are aiming for early deliveries to make us of the tall players in the squad, and Colaco almost provided just that from the right flank, but his ball was cut out by the defenders. For now, Singapore have been pegged back in their own half.
Mr Lallianzuala Chhangte, take a bow!!! What a stunning strike from the winger to put the hosts ahead.
India's press bore fruit, with the Singapore's defence being picked by Chhangte. He takes the ball onto his left foot, and after steadying himself, lets out a bullet strike. Curling outwards, it beats Mahbud at full stretch and nestles in the top corner.
The other contest between Hong Kong and Bangladesh have ended in a 1-1 draw. If the results stay like this, India will stay in second place. What they need is a big win to improve their goal difference, which will keep them in contention.
Kalid Jamil knows this, annd his side are looking to get the second goal as early as possible, with Chhangte looking like a man posessed.
Chhangte has been, by far, India's best player so far. The winger put on the afterburners to receive the ball on the left flank and make his way into the box. He then cut it across the face of the goal, and the ball comes to Liston. On his stronger right foot, he has a shot with the goalkeeper out of the question, but Baharuddin makes a good goal line clearance.
What a setup by India, and had Mahesh put the finishing touches, it would have been a stunning goal. Colaco did very well to take the ball down the flanks before finding Chhetri with the cross. The veteran forward opted to lay it off for Mahesh, but his shot was straight at the goalkeeper.
Calamity at the back for India as Singapore find a way back in the match. A cross from the right-back towards Fandi is partially cleared by the defence, and it falls to Kweh, who lays it off for Song Uiyoung to smash it past the sea of bodies and into the bottom corner.
The referee blows the whistle for half-time, and both sides are going into the tunnel with the scores tied up. India dominated the entire match, and had two-three decent chances to find the back of the net, but they will be disappointed to conceded with the final touch of the half.
Both sets of players are out on the pitch, and Singapore get the second half underway. One change for Singapore as Ilhan Fandi comes on for Amirul Adli. No changes by Khalid Jamil, who will hope for more of the same from his side in search for the second goal.
After a foul by Kweh - which earns him a yellow - India win a free-kick right on the left edge of the box. Chhangte steps up the take the free-kick but hits it straight at the wall and behind for a corner.
The resulting ball from Mahesh is only partially cleared and almost fell for Bheke, who was through. The flag, however, goes up for offside. Replays, however, show that Bheke was well onside when the ball was played to him.
What just happened?! India were looking strong and on the attack, but after losing posession, Singapore countered with pace and lethality. A long ball into the box is received by Ilhan Fandi, who plays it to Anuar on the right edge. He lays it off for Uiyoung, who completes his brace.
India's best chance of the second half, and it is blazed over by Chhetri from inside the box. Colaco, who has improved by miles in the last 30 minutes or so, makes a darting run and gets past his marker to find Chhangte, who plays it for Chhetri. The veteran, however, can't keep his shot down.
Colaco does extremely well to turn and attract a foul from Ilhan Fandi. The full-back, already on a yellow card, is lucky to remain on the pitch. Meanwhile, Singapore make a double change, bringing on Lionel Tan and Jacob Mahler in place of Irfan Najeeb and Glenn Kweh.
From the resulting set-piece, Singapore fail to clear the ball properly, and a first-time volley from substitute Sahal Abdul Samad is deflected away.
With India piling on the pressure in search of an equaliser, Jamil opts for a double change. Udanta Singha and Rahim Ali - who scored in the last match against Singapore - are coming on. Chhetri walks off the pitch. A couple of changes for Singapore as well.
Another half-decent opportunity for India to equalise. Sahal plays a short pass to Chhangte, who crosses with left first-time towards the far corner. Udanta is waiting and puts in a downwards header. It beats the goalkeeper but goes just wide of the left post.
Massive save from Gurpreet to keep India in the contest. A perfect cross from the right flank by Syahin falls to Ilhan Fandi in the middle of the box, who directs it goalwards with a flick of the neck. It's on target, and the goalkeeper makes a diving save to parry the ball away.
The fourth official indicates a minimum of four added minutes to be played at the end of regulation time. Meanwhile, a missed effort from Brandon Fernandes in the box means India's wait for an equaliser continues, and they have four minutes to get something out of this match, or else their Asian Cup hopes are over.
Despite having all the players - including Gurpreet - for a corner, India fail to get the all-important equaliser. The referee blows for full time, and India's hopes for qualification is over.
Credit must go to Singapore, who gave it their all to turn back the match after going down and being second best for most of the first-half. At the end, Uiyoung's brace gives the visitor a deserved victory.
