France 3-1 Senegal Match Photos: Mbappe Makes History As Les Bleus Tame Lions Of Teranga
France vs Senegal Match Photos: France defeated Senegal 3-1 at New York New Jersey Stadium (MetLife Stadium), East Rutherford, on Tuesday (16 June) to launch their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign on a winning note. After a sluggish first half, Les Bleus produced a stunning display of attacking football to tame the Sadio Mane-led Lions of Teranga. Captain Kylian Mbappe broke the deadlock in the 66th minute, assisted by Michael Olise, becoming France's all-time top goalscorer. Substitute Bradley Barcola chipped a second, and though 18-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye grabbed a stoppage-time consolation for Senegal, the Real Madrid star responded immediately with a 30-yard stunner to seal the points. The encounter renewed a historic rivalry tracing back to the 2002 World Cup, where debutants Senegal famously upset the defending champions 1-0. Up next in Group I, two-time champions France will face Iraq in Philadelphia, while Senegal seek a win when they play Norway in East Rutherford on June 22.
