Good evening, football fans! This is the start of our live blog covering Arsenal’s Premier League match against Newcastle United. Stay tuned for pre-match updates and line-ups as they are released.
The match kicks off at 10pm IST. The Arsenal vs Newcastle United, Premier League encounter will be live streamed on the JioHotstar app and website in India. It will be telecast on the Star Sports Network TV channels in the country.
Here's how Arsenal line up tonight:
Here is the Magpies' line-up for the high-voltage away fixture:
Arsenal and Newcastle have faced each other on 198 occasions across all competitions. Arsenal lead the head-to-head record with 87 wins, compared to 72 victories for Newcastle. The remaining 39 games ended in a draw.
The match is underway at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal kicking from left to right and Newcastle the other way in the first half. The Magpies earn a big chance, seconds after kick-off. Will Osula botches it up in the box, failing to connect with the ball and stumbling. That would have been quite a start!
Corker from Eberechi Eze! The attacking midfielder puts Arsenal in the lead with a thunderous, curling strike from mid-distance. For the umpteenth time this season, the Gunners score from a corner, as Martin Odegaard passes it to Kai Havertz, who sets it up for Eze outside. The Englishman does the rest with a glorious shot that thuds into the far corner of the Newcastle goal.
Kai Havertz is getting some treatment from the physio, causing an interruption. The Arsenal forward has to reluctantly leave the pitch and in comes Viktor Gyokeres.
The first half draws to a close after three added minutes. Eze's cracking goal is the difference between the teams at the interval. The Magpies are not out of this by any means, as yet.
The players are back from the lemon break and the second half kicks off. Arsenal now attacking from right to left and Newcastle the other way.
Arsenal continue to hold all the aces in this game. Newcastle are yet to register a single shot on goal in the second half. Meanwhile, Harvey Barnes comes in for Will Osula and Yoane Wissa for Jacob Murphy for the Magpies.
Nick Pope escapes what seemed like a red card-worthy offence! The Newcastle goalie charged out of his box to try and avert Viktor Gyokeres' run towards goal. He fouls the Arsenal striker upon slipping and is shown a yellow card for it. VAR is employed to check whether a red was warranted, but it stays to yellow.
Seven minutes have been added to the second half as stoppage time. Enough to find an equaliser, one reckons, but do the Magpies have the killer instinct and the legs for it?
That's that. The referee calls time and Mikel Arteta exults, quite vigorously at that as Arsenal win 1-0 at home against Newcastle to return to the Premier League summit.
